Metal!

looking for recommendations with a caveat: I hate cookie monster vocals. I mostly grew up with and love thrash and I enjoy technical and prog metal and I like most other varieties of the ol' heavy metal, but those cookie monster vocals always fucking ruin it. If I can't understand what you're saying, you're just getting in the way of me hearing the music, cookiemonster singer dudes. anyone got any good recs for metal with clean (or not, just no growly dudes who need cookies) vocals?

This was one of my faves from last year…

I'm usually in this boat too, although I do like some melodic black metal that uses the growl effectively (e.g. Blut Aus Nord, Deafheaven, An Autumn for Crippled Children). @avecigrec turned me on to Zeal & Ardor, who are amazing if you haven't already checked them out. I'm also a huge fan of stoner, hard blues/psych, doom metal and their various overlaps. Check out The Cosmic Peddler: Mail-Order Music Store and listen around a bit to see what clicks. It's an excellent one man store and the guy who runs it gives great CS. Also I'm always suggesting the Weedian playlists on Bandcamp. They're pay what you want and represent from all around the world. It's not all metal, but a lot is and the rest is usually adjacent.

If you have more specific subgenres of metal you're into I have more specific recommendations too.
