All Things King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

That’s fair. I just feel like they are really doing well at doing things their own way, so I am hoping they keep the surprises coming and when they loose the spark, I hope they let it go.

So many great bands taint their legacy by keeping things going for a little too long, or starting to mimic other bands. I just want them to shine bright while they can, and disappear as quickly as they emerged. Lock that legacy in strong.

On the upside, they seem far from out of steam.

Do you think that they’re not going to be a forever band? I feel like that they have a solid friendship. Maybe not forever but at least 30 years. It’s been 12 already.

Some bands can be a band forever.
Some bands grow out of the band.
Some bands should stop being a band, but keep going anyway.
Some bands take a long break and have a great comeback.

Where will Gizz fall, time will tell.
I just hope it’s not under the category where they become bland and predictable. Just forgettable. Or the category where the band members slowly move on one by one and 1-2 original members keep it going under the same name.

I want them to be a band with a song legacy. Guys that came in, did stuff different, and always leave an impression. If they can do that for 30 more years, amazing. But if they can’t, I hope they don’t try and force it.

This is perfectly reasonable. The band will do what they will, we can only hope for the best.

For fervent fans it can be a weird dichotomy though. My true obsession is Punch Brothers, I was disappointed by All Ashore, not because it was a bad album, but because it felt like they were treading water - which is slightly unfair since it was the first album they self produced - but it for sure wasn't the evolution I expected given their trajectory prior to that album. On the other hand, I can appreciate something like Sturgill Simpson's Sound & Fury which is unsuccessful, but attempts to do something brave and new.

Don't want to speculate the 'end' of King Gizz too much, but then again, they used to say they always knew what their last album would be (though some say this idea has already been used).

I think King Gizz is more like a very solid foundation to all these different things than 'just a band'. They've already lost one member (the oldest) to their own projects that were conceived out of their contribution to the band.

I think this could happen with every member except Stu, who has always kind of been the core of the musical aspect. So with that in mind I could see the band itself just kind of dissipate outwards, but at the current rate this seems like it will take a very long time.

I would be so down with King Gizzard doing double sets. Or going to the E Street Band route and all shows are 3-4 hour marathon shows. They've already got the material! I've had tickets to see them for over 2 years now. There's been 3 (potentially 4) albums of material released since then!
I’ve also been holding those marathon tickets for Red Rocks since 2019. I did a count the other day. Since I purchased those tickets they have released 4 studio albums, announced the 5. And the show isn’t until Oct. In theory they could do a marathon set using only material that wasn’t released when those tickets were sold.

This also doesn’t count remix or live albums. It’s 5 studio albums at this point.

and that's with them feeling like they've slowed down a bit with the studio albums. it really is pretty mental and I love every minute of it. that's not saying that it's all golden, as much as I love them there's the fair critiques to be made here and there, but it feels so truly genuine... like all of it. from the music, to the band, and the Gizz community at large.

they've really started something special... here's to the next 20 albums!

I wonder what's these tracks could be? I guess we'll find out tomorrow..

this is live now... seems like they're going to sell it in July but are running a contest for a test pressing.

they are asking to send an email guessing what the 4 songs are, which they give a clue to go through the bootlegger albums on the site and compare to the actual vinyl releases.

so, based on that I'm guessing it's going to be the Mind Fuzz suite from the 2016 Levitation show since those were cut from the 2xLP since they already included the 2014 Mind Fuzz suite.

Those tracks are on the Diggers Factory version, so they'd be stretching the not on vinyl bit. But you're probably right.

How dare you. I for one very much look forward to John Mayer and the Last Vestiges of the Lizard playing a pleasant June evening set at my local amphitheater.

oh really? I don't think I knew the DF version included all the songs.

anyway for what it's worth, I already got a reply for my guess and was told I was getting 3 submissions for the drawing, so pretty much confirms it is going to be the Levitation '16 Mind Fuzz suite
