Vinyl Me Please Classics

I agree with @keylime_5 that Nina makes the most sense based off of the “jazz/soul” clue. She was my first thought as well.

But @bdrummond is also correct that Storf has routinely given bad clues. It would be completely on brand for Storf to say “jazz/soul” for someone like Stevie Wonder lol.

Stevie may be a bad example, but I could totally see them putting an Ella Fitzgerald, a Minnie Riperton, a Ray Charles or a Shirley Bassey (all of whom came up using the discogs soul-jazz/vocal filter) under that clue. Nina just seems too easy and I feel if that field was so narrow they wouldn't use the clue the first go around.

Although in hindsight that Philly Soul is a pretty narrow clue, so who the fuck knows? This is the same person that put Quasimoto as a 2 member group when it's really just one with a persona.

Finally got around to listening to +‘Justments. Pressing is dead silent, although slightly warped.

Sound wise, it’s lovely. I was a little disappointed with It’s Magic, but this is more like it. Lots of separation and room for each instrument to breath. Compared to steaming, the music feels very alive and it really sucks you in. Easily one of the best picks this year.

Yeah, It's Magic was definitely disappointing when compared to say "Abbey is Blue" which is 1000x superior. I don't even know if I'll spin it again with that one in my collection.

So...why not throw out some wild guesses?

October (Philly Soul): The O'Jays - Survival (Their 4th best album seems on point for Classics, and obviously they'll put Backstabber in the Philadelphia International Anthology.)

November (Blues): Freddie King - Freddie King is a Blues Master (Completing their Kings of The Blues trilogy)

December (Jazz/Soul Vocalist): Al Jarreau - We Got By (A male jazz vocalist for a change, and this album is awesome.)

Freddie King is a possibility for November. I’m personally hoping for Magic Sam’s Black Magic.

I remember that being brought up earlier this year and I’ve wanted it since.

Freddie King fits!

The last blues Classics they did was also 1969 so there is a lot of guesses from back in March that would fit here. Some good ones were Black Magic by Magic Sam, Big Mama Thornton's Stronger Than Dirt, Otis Rush's Mourning in the Morning (which I really hope it is!) and Freddie King is a Blues Master

Damn I was hoping for Terry Callier What Color is Love?

I've got this recent reissue and it's pretty good. You can almost certainly grab it in a deal, I got for like $13 in a udiscover sale.

Ok, my new guesses:

October (1978 Philly Soul): The O'Jays - So Full of Love (I still think a second tier O'Jays record is likely.)

November (1969 Blues): Freddie King - Freddie King is a Blues Master (Magic Sam, Otis Rush, or Big Mama Thorton would all be great too though.)

December (1971 Jazz/Soul Vocalist): Sarah Vaughn - A Time in My Life (A Jazz singer, singing cheesy soul covers. That sounds like a Storf special.)

UDiscover has just announced a 25% off sale so Terry Callier is currently around $13 again. So jump on that @jamieanderson1968
