The Blue Note Thread

Dunno how hard it is to find at the moment overall, but Target's got Byrd in Flight in stock. I just grabbed it along with Dexter Gordon's One Flight Up. Then I did a separate order to pre-order Katanga and The Witch Doctor.

June's off to an expensive start already. 😅

(I missed out on Roots and Herbs so I'm hoping a restock of that is on the way at some point)

My local shop has a copy of Roots and Herbs. Sealed. It's full retail price at $35, but they ship for free. This is my favorite record store in KC, excellent curated jazz shop.

Edit: they just started their website a month or so ago, so it's a work in progress and doesn't have much inventory currently listed.

Somebody needs to grab that ASAP.
No sales tax and free shipping?

In case anyone needed a little encouragement to grab the new Andrew Hill Tone Poet:

I've bought five Tone Poets in the last two days please don't do this to me.

I’ll cross post this later in the Fresh Grabs thread but wanted to share it here first.

An employee at my local shop who knows I tolerate beat-up copies set aside a record that he thought I’d be interested in despite a really noisy Side B:

He was damn right. I took a chance on it for $5. From what I can tell, this is likely the first pressing from 1957: deep groove, “ear” and all. I keep a backup cartridge around for records in rough condition, and am happy to report that it plays through without a single skip. I’d call Side A a “VG-”; Side B is noisy indeed, but fortunately this record is light on quiet passages, which helps. Considering that the cheapest available copy on Discogs is listed at €500, I can’t complain!

Sweet! Just goes to show that it pays to frequent the local shop!

There have been times over the past few months when I’ve felt disillusioned with this hobby, what with inflated prices and all. But then I have days like today when I get extremely lucky and all’s well again!

(I’m including a photo of the label, which I keep double-checking because I’m still in a bit of a shock.)

Too rich for me.

Sweeet I've been so excited for this. Lot of money to be putting down but hopefully it will drop slightly, its not limited by the looks of it?

Also, im sick of this US/UK conversion rubbish that seems to be the standard. $350 is currently equivalent to £248.03, yet on the UK Blue Note shop its priced at £299
