So I have an issue I've not come across before. I picked up an album that was new and shrink wrapped online from a local shop out of area. Everything looks perfect to the eye. The album lays flat. I can see no physical damage. The first half track on both sides the cartridge jumps enough to get air-born and plop down creating a thump. It's on the same spot every turn.

I'm thinking it's not set up because I have some clearly warped thin vinyl that it will play fine.
Look carefully at the grooves in the spot where it skips. I saw an album once that had a pressing defect where the grooves were “swiggly” instead of circular.

Is your new album the Telarc 1812 Overture?

I'll look. It may be something like this. It wobbles left to right before it jumps... more than normal

Hello everyone! I'm new here. This is my first post. I just finished reading this whole thread and I'm now a bit worried because I ordered a Studiodeck about three weeks ago, it should be here this week. But after reading all the issues this deck has had I'm concerned to say the least. I'm in Ontario Canada and with tax I'm into this deck for a tad under $2,400.00 CAD. Should I expect these kinds of issues to be normal for that kind of financial layout? At this point I'm hoping that MoFi has looked into and addressed all the issues. My choice came down to the Studiodeck and the Technics SL-1200GR..... I chose to go with the Studiodeck. Color me worried. :(

I have a studiodeck. Love it, zero issues.

So, if I've greased the bearing and it has massive air trapped not letting the platter settle after a few hours, do I just need to try and remove grease with a Q-tip or something to allow for air escape?

You’ve likely used too much grease. Q Tips work. I did the same thing the first time I cleaned and relubed the bearing and shaft.

Love my Studiodeck! Have had it for just over a year now and haven't had a single issue. Enjoy!
