Anyone else find the thing about how Hayes sould have been lumped in with ELP super weird? Doesn't that sort of enforce the racist belief that funk was/is lesser than?

Yeah I definitely raised my eyebrows when I read that...
i wonder if maybe storf isn't that great a pick for selecting classics albums, and running the social media, and running the country track coming in february, and being the only person who actually talks about the ROTMs other than crashprez, and being the person who will probably take over if cameron ever leaves (lets hope he doesnt)

I understand your argument, but I felt that the recent trio of jazz albums in a row (Rollins > Szabo > Hawkins) was too much and I love jazz! I would rather it went Hard Bop > Delta Blues > Memphis dSoul > Afro-Beat > Gospel > Free Jazz > Funk > Vocal Jazz > Boogie-Woogie > Avant Garde > Electric Blues > Trad Jazz > Salsa > Fusion ...
If they ever do a AAA, pressed @ QRP, Machine Gun, I will happily rejoin for the month and pay $52USD for it.

100% agree too! If they ever do an AAA, pressed at QRP. 180g remastered pressing of Machine Gun, I’d happily pay $52USD as well! That album does mean a lot to me! Such a therapeutic album!
lets be honest they are not going to go that far... not even in the least bit... legit the last album that wasn't explicitly just "R&B/Soul, Jazz, and Blues" was cecilia y johnny. the entire thing has become as predicatable as just a couple popular labels from the 70s

Yeah, I was trying exclude the quality of the music, as that can be subjective. But, I agree, all three of those jazz records are very good to amazing albums musically. Meanwhile these three Funk/Soul/R&B albums, for me, are middling at best, which just increases my disdain for this run.

At the risk of being too formulaic, but big picture, the sub should be 4-5 Jazz albums, 4-5 Soul/Funk, and 2-3 Blues albums per year. With the occasional leftfield pick like gospel, salsa, etc. to provide variety. Preferably alternating, not all at once.
I'd have HMS Fable and would probably release it across both classics and essentials continuously for 3 months in a variety of colours. Such as black, black, black, black, black and handpoured rainbow splatter
Why less blues?

Idk. I would think true jazz heads would be into them doing Machine Gun. But...Sonny Sharrock's Ask the Ages is still in the store and that's a Top 10 jazz album of the 90s, so what do I know.
Which reminds me... If you don't like this Isaac Hayes album (which is Hayes' 13th best album?), or the the Fredrick Knight album (which has a great title track and 10 tracks of filler), or don't host enough dress-up parties to bother with the Leon Ware album, here's a suggestion:
Swap for credit and then buy Sonny Sharrock.
Features:
- Innovative and bad-ass guitar playing. Like imagine if Jimi Hendrix played modal avant-garde jazz.
- Features Pharoah Sanders on sax, Charnett Moffett on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums.
- Same mastering and pressing as Classics (Ryan Smith / Pressed at QRP)
- Incentivizes VMP to press more left-field jazz albums, meaning we may get Machine Gun, and other creatively interesting albums, rather than the dregs of the Stax vault.

And....hold up!!! Dress up parties to listen to Leon Ware!?! Sure, you can dress up and be kinky and have sex to Musical Massage but I think it’s just an incredible album to spin! Musical Massage is a classy, intoxicating and divine album which contains lush production and features mainly passionate, tender vocals!
Because Musical Massage is such a strong album, and is easy on the ears, it’s an album that’s great to play for many occasions! I can’t recommend the album enough! It’s an innovative album, coming from an innovative producer at the time, who produced some of Marvin Gaye’s and Minnie Riperton’s sexiest and best songs ever in my opinion!
I agree that getting store credit to buy that Sonny Sharrock instead of the Isaac Hayes and Frederick Knight is a great idea. But that Leon Ware is a MUST!!!

I haven't been this shocked since Daphne Maxwell Reid replaced Janet Hubert. And I still haven't processed THAT, so imagine where I'm at with this.
Right now it's a whorl of words: "AAA", "QRP", "TREATMENT" (what?!!!). They haven't even coalesced into a coherent thought yet.
