I think I’m just not drying it well enough. I use distilled water, the spin clean formula and do the spin cleaning properly. I just let the record dry for 15 seconds before wiping it down with a cloth. And after wiping the vinyl for 30 seconds, I put the disc on a platter and vacuum clean it. After the vacuum cleaning, it goes into a Diskeeper inner sleeve.

But yeah, no more of that. I’ll be getting a record cleaning machine! The spin clean is too complicated for me, and I want something that’s more professional/higher quality.

I know I’m not doing it properly (the drying part) as I use the dryvac straight after a quick wipe and sleeve it afterwards, but the Spin Clean is too much effort for me and I hate that it made most of my records more noisy!

If you’re not using it properly it hasn’t made your records more noisy, YOU HAVE!

Well my records for the month haven’t come yet so I can’t talk about them and there’s no guesses for the rest of the year but I guess I’ll have stop by and say some random stuff once in a while just to avoid merging the threads into one giant clusterpug thread, at least until my records get here and the guessing start up again .

it's like oils and debris from your fingers once it's in the grooves it's stuck there.

I might invest in a wet vac system..local record shop supplies a kit made on a 3D printer to go with one and she swears by it over a proper cleaning machine

I used this method - But found rack drying them left a film (or loose debris in grooves ?) on records that my needle would pick up a tonne of - A shit load of muck that wasnt there b4 i gave it a spin clean - This happened all the time but was reduced if I then rinsed with just deionised water. But what a faff - Spending £300 on a Project VS... was worth the time saving and easy - Even if it is just a VAC in a box :)
 
I gave OutKast's Stankonia a listen last night. I'd say it is well done. Minimal surface noise and the recording had some life to it. Sleeve quality was great. Having only listened to this digitally or on CD before, vinyl was a different experience given the side breaks.

The drying rack before towel drying, Id be nervous of solution drying in the grooves then, I do it the other way down, drying fully with cloth first, then air dry.

Mmmmm...I shall do a bit of a reversal then, quick dry with a cloth, the. On to the rack , and then a new cloth to dry ...think I shall go down a wet vac with attachements route soon as my spin clean brushes are probably due a replacement now

Yeah long term my aim is for one of those too. All spent up for 2020 now though and I still have 80% of a bottle of spin clean fluid left!

Gave it another cleaning and fresh spin this morning. Still some crackle and pressing deficiencies, but on a more forgivable level now. Maybe I'll give it one more spin trough the RCM, but I'm not holding my breath for further improvement.

Too bad because the mastering is really good. It's cut hot, but that seems to be becoming the standard with VMP. Also not really a bad thing. Overall the pressing is good enough to enjoy, especially given that I'm still on old pricing. Now if I was paying $40+ based on the new subscription prices, I'd be complaining. At $25ish, I'm pretty happy with this.

Yeah my record 2 was super dirty. I haven’t given it a clean yet, but it’s pretty noisy. Record 1 was much better.

Thats how it starts!!

Seriously though, I picked up a Project VC -S2 when the UK deal popped up the other week and it's given a whole new life to my records. The vast majority of my purchases are old records which have likely never been cleaned since they were first bought. There's been so many which I just accepted the surface noise or pops as surface marks and age, but after a deep clean have completely removed these unwanted noises. That's not to say that new records don't deserve a clean as well. In fact, just using the machine has made me aware of just how much gunk and paper debris is on these new records, its unbelievable.

What's also crazy to me is that not only is the listening experience so much better, but their value has likely increased as well. I actually had a Discogs seller refund me a chunk after he listened to the record before sending it and it had pops/ticks. I accepted and for about a year have put up with it (I cleaned it but not on a machine) and after a proper clean on the machine the pops/ticks have completely gone.
 
I have a Squeaky Clean too. Have cleaned over 2000 records with it.

Great investment.

The advantages over a more expensive brand name RCM are twofold - first, you can use a higher HP vac with it, as the vac motors in any commercial machine are a weak spot. Second - it is manual turn, a huge advantage as you can turn as many times as necessary to get to dry, by simply observing the record as you turn.

Two things critical to this or any other RCM are the fluid you use and the cloth used to final polish dry. Antistatic cloth is a big plus.

For a new record, I have a two step process with FirstRV followed by Pure2. After this, in 99% of cases I have a flawless player. The remaining 1% are going to be pressing issues, usually visible, that can't be fixed.

if someone could clarify this for me; bit didnt vmp avout two years ago press stankonia as an option? and now is an essential?

not that stankonia isnt a dope record; but theres a huge list of things im paying for monthly to get and this aint one of them. you can find this album pretty damn easily and its been that way with vmp for a while. give. me. some. hard. to. find. ish.

isnt that what a record club is about?
