Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I do not own a single Herbie Hancock album, and I'm appreciating the emphasis placed on his friendship/partnership with Wayne Shorter in this box, and the price is high but not tooooooo high(?), so I bit. Because it is VMP, if I change my mind and cancel before it ships I won't even feel bad, so let the games begin!

you tell us:
I honestly thought I had Man-Child for a second because I ordered it from a place but it’s still on back-order with Lou Reed’s Transformer! I had Bill Withers and others arrive but not that one ages ago but never those two! I realised recently that I don’t actually have Man-Child! 😅🙈

I’m thinking of getting it just from Amazon and cancelling the order from Grooveworks as it’s been a long time that it’s been on backorder for!

the only albums i'd want are headhunters (45RPM AP here i come), and maiden voyage (its impossible to get a high quality copy of that if just because MM has that license)
I wonder if this proves it wrong that MM is holding up the license. Or maybe since it is part of a box set it doesn't apply.

That one seems like the only big get. This seems to be another sign of cutting costs, pressing black at GZ has no other explanation. Yet, they charge higher by average price than single AP pressing. I don't understand why they continue to think pricing themselves above AP and MoFi with lower quality is a good strategy.

now how do we get maiden voyage for NOT music matters prices
Vintage reissues I guess. That's one I slightly regret not grabbing from MM, but I picked Empyrean Isles instead as I prefer it.

I'm hopeful it gets another quality reissue sooner than later, but it could be a few years. And if there are problems with the tape, as someone mentioned, maybe vintage is the way to go.

But it’s cheaper than AP and MOFI!

AP, it’s USD$55 for a 2LP! There’s three 2xLP in the Boxset and the Boxset is $289!

AP would be very tricky to top, its cut at sterling sound right? I imagine (hope for the love of god) that this pressing will be good though, its cut by Bernie Grundman from the original masters.
Maybe a hot take but I think BG takes it a bit safe when he cuts jazz and I might prefer RKS or KG...
