i dont think i am ready for a hard M medieval final fantasy game....
it feels more like the witcher than final fantasy
Medieval Final Fantasy is the best Final Fantasy! (Unsurprisingly my favorites are IV, VI, IX, and Tactics, with quite a bit of time also dedicated to XI and XII. I haven’t played anything newer than XII.)
The bummer for me is that while the medieval setting looks amazing, this looks like a straight up action RPG, which is not a genre I like (I can do Skyrim because the combat is more stat- than skill-based). I suppose that’s a good thing because I have no plans to buy a PS5 (or a PC for that matter) and therefore won’t suffer FOMO.

seeing as the final fantasy trailer was age restricted and had a scene of someone being stabbed bad and blood spilling onto a child....
its probably going for the M rating.. gameplay looks very FFVIIR, story makes no sense, something about crystals and some boy named joshua who you are the shield to and can probably shapeshift into monsters. and looks very witcher or elder scrolls like in its environment, not the kind of science fantasy medieval of say FFIV and VI

Idk the trailer seemed EXTREMELY Final Fantasy from what I could tell.
XV was definitely flawed, but I'm excited to see what they can do with expanding the combat and fleshing out the narrative without previous restraints (the development of XV was fraught, but this one has a lot of talent from XIV involved which is some of the best FF storytelling ever so I'm optimistic).
i have only played like 30-40% of FFIV (up to where cecil becomes a paladin) and the aesthetic i most know of FF is the VII, X, and XIII style where its science fantasy instead of medieval fantasy

I wish the base story of FFXIV wasn't so long because the expansions are where the story starts to get really good. Heavensward was fantastic, and while Stormblood isn't as good, I've heard people say that the latest expansion, Shadowbringers, is a top 5 all time Final Fantasy story. Excited to get to it.
I haven’t played that game in years but IIRC all the good stuff comes after that!
Different strokes, though. I have VIII and X on the Switch but I can’t get into either of them. At this point I’m more likely to fire up IX again for a 4th playthrough...

FFXVI looks like grimdark non MMO FFXIV, which makes sense, since I think it's the same people making it that made FFXIV.

I preordered the PS5 with the drive through amazon last night, not sure if I'll cancel. I'm usually pretty wary of launch versions but we'll see.

I love this series, but as someone without a PS4, XBOX, or quality PC I never got a chance to play World, so I'm definitely excited for this announcement!

From my experience on Xbox the graphical issues and lag were all patched out, so hopefully that carries over to Switch. I highly recommend the game for anyone who hasn't played it yet.

I definitely plan on playing it. just I have enough games at the moment that I can wait, especially if there will be a sale down the road as it's currently $30
