Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

do we know what time (EST) the drop is tomorrow for signing up for Fishscale? I have $19 in credit on my account which would make the cost even for the single month option a lot easier to stomach... so I'm definitely considering it and don't want to miss out.

edit: 5pm. note to self, check the email before asking the question next time.

edit #2: can credits be used towards the membership fee?

If you email CS they can be.

gotta email CS about it, in other words you'll find out in about two weeks lmao

Very rarely does a VMP ROTM "selling out" actually mean it's gone. And even if it is, in many cases, a standard repress tends to follow not long after. I would not stress too much about it, there will be other chances down the line. Personally I don't know if it's worth the trouble, but I'll refrain from saying too much more than that since I seem to have struck a nerve with some today for pointing out VMP's issues.
Strike all the nerves you can. Some people just don't like to face the truth. VMP has had more than enough gaffes just through their site conversion, overselling records, shipping issues, atrocious customer service after those gaffes and now just straight up gouging. Don't ever apologize for calling out bad business practices. And that's not even touching on the Vinceron thing and their dismissive treatment of customers on Reddit through all of this.

Oh I agree. I stand by everything I've ever said about VMP and their constant failures. I think what happened is my complaining started to cross over to where it came off like I was judging people for buying from VMP. I personally wouldn't do business with VMP or recommend them as a company to anyone, but at the end of the day people are free to spend their money however they want. But as for the company themselves? Yes, 100% they deserve all the shit people fling their way.

If you sign up right now, will you receive Fishscale? Or should I wait for swaps to open.
Of course they’d drop some 🔥 the month after cancellation.

Got my first overdraft buying this masterpiece back in 2006.
I’m pretty sure that if you sign up now, you’ll receive Fishscale, but you can always wait until the ROTM’s are announced, and then join with Fishscale! 😊

Also, so good to see you here again! I haven’t seen you in ages! Hope you’re going well! 😘😜

I am still waiting for swaps to open.

Not my favorite GFK album. Glad people are digging it, I just know I won't spin this more than once.
I think it’s an album likely to get a lot of spins!

Side A starts off brilliantly with Shakey Dog, a cinematic, suspenseful, grimy song, and it peaks with the triumphant, boxing-ring, hungry, fiery, victorious “The Champ”! The mathematical, mafioso, funky Kilo with Raekwon is so clever - it reminds me a lot of a track from MF DOOM’s MM FOOD with all the mathematical/equation references to drugs! So catchy too!

Side B starts off with a J Dilla beat where Ghostface Killah’s smooth, relaxed flow over the beat matches perfectly. This side also ends with a J Dilla Beat - Whip You With A Strap! One of my favourites on the album! This side has very pretty production overall!

Side C starts off with the poignant, sentimental yet resentful, Motown, hilarious R&B catchy track “Back Like That”, the twinkling pianos evoke this Christmas, somber, bittersweet tone! Ne-Yo’s singing on the hook is great! The next track “Be Easy” is a straight up banger with a fat Pete Rock beat! It’s classic upbeat song east-coast song that absolutely bangs! Then we get some great MF DOOM beats!

Side D has a lot of heartfelt songs on there, but all are different from each other! Side D starts off with the soulful Big Girl, taking a 70’s sample and cleverly using different perspectives of the sample in different pers of the track to match the energy of Ghostface! Momma is a more lush, contemporary sentimental track that sees Ghostface getting deep into the regret of not loving his Mother enough back then! The real gem on that side though is the mysterious, buttery smooth, flute/hip-hop looping “Underwater”! The narrative rapping on that song is incredible! I think it’s my favourite track on the album along with “The Champ”, “Shakey Dog” & “Whip You With A Strap”!

Fishscale is quite cinematic overall, and every track is very different from each other, yet the album has a strong fluidity to it, despite being so versatile! I’m sure it’s an album you will likely return to after spinning!

I highly recommend this album! This is honestly such a strong R&HH pick! The production on Fishscale alone will have you coming back to spinning it! 🔥🔥🔥

I just don't like it enough to own it.

If you’re not sure about Fishscale, then I guess it’s a pass, especially as you’ll be paying USD$33! 💯

I won’t be surprised if this release sells out anyways! It’s definitely the biggest R&HH ROTM this year so far! And also one of the strongest picks too in the R&HH track in my opinion! 💎
