August 2020 Challenge Thread - The Dog Days of Vinyl Playing

Day 12: - Vinyl Appreciation Day

I do like that we get releases on this format that wouldn't otherwise be released in a physical media. The original pressing of this soundtrack is one of my favorites, but this reissue does a much better job overall. The bigger artwork, die-cut jacket, 2 x 45 RPM, colored vinyl (if that's your thing), expanded soundtrack etc...

Now...most of this can be possible on CD, but not really to the extent that it is done on this medium.

I also think this movie is my favorite of all the "Lecktor" movies...and why I hate Red Dragon so much.

Have you seen the Hannibal tv series? I actually watched that before reading Red Dragon and thought they did a pretty good job with that section of the series (I believe it was the latter half of series 3.

I think I watched it up to that part of the show. It's been long enough that I would need to go back and re-watch the whole thing again...and I haven't had the time to do that yet.

Day 11 - A certain someone's Birthday, play an album you recorded as a gift.

Got this from a crazy lady up the street a while back, more of a PIF than gift, but thanks to @GritNGlitter 😀

EDIT: I've listened to this a few times, and wasn't really getting it. I dug Alligator, but that was about it. Now, this morning, The National are sounding great to me. Fuck me.

YOU'RE WELCOME

Day 13 - Hitchcock/scary

This album features some seriously creepy vocals from Atilla Csihar (famous for the equally creepy vocals on Mayhem’s De Mysteriis album). Here, he kind of sounds like Emperor Palpatine 😂

This album really has it all, including a side-long Alice Coltrane tribute and a mix of 33/45 rpm depending on side (which could be scary to anyone with a manual speed change TT).

Day 12 - Vinyl record day

This is probably the Dylan LP with most interesting instrumentation (Lanois), so I figured it would benefit a lot from the Mofi/45 RPM treatment. Unsurprisingly, it does. I’m a pretty cheap guy, but I’m willing to splurge if I think it will improve my appreciation of the music.

iveprobablywatched 80% of that show but none of it in the right order. Pretty sure that didn’t improve it much.

Day 13

Scary

vampires are scary right? If not, I’m pretty sure the one lady is eating the other lady’s face.

On a side note, I thought about playing Clipping. but decided that would bug my wife. This was on for about 30 seconds before my wife exclaimed she was putting her headphones on.

Also, for some reason I always want to listen to Peter Gabriel’s Passion after this which has all kinds of weird implications about my psyche.

Day 13

Alfred Hitchcock's birthday
I have in my possession a cursed record. Not because of the cover though the fingers are the stuff of nightmares.....

I do not condone the actions of the disgustuing things described by a track title on this..... nor will I type out the title of the track as to why this is the scariest record I own. I dare not even type the title of this thing out. I honestly don't think a picture should have been taken for the images be cursed. You’ll need to read it for yourself and I will be be typing it out even if you ask

I got this via some records being trashed. It really shouldn’t have been saved but the previous owner didn’t even open it up. I don’t know why I still keep it to be honest I guess the mystery of what that track is will be why I keep it? I’ll never play it and never plan on it. I guess the thought of a record this cursed existing and the knowledge I have it is enough.

It's survived this long unplayed and I dare not unleash the terror of it because 2020 has been enough. I am really scared to post this because it's BAD.
