Baseball

I'm not sure but it'll be fascinating to see play out. The NBA seems to have a better handle on how to possibly keep their players from testing positive. It'll still happen with the NBA. But sports has led the way in this so far. The NBA shutting down was when people seemed to have finally taken Covid seriously.

Fox just announced that they will be having "virtual fans" in the stands for all of their telecasts. Like CGI fans filling the stadium. Cheering, booing, etc. Should be fun.

I don't like that! Maybe I'm weird but there's something visually appealing about an empty stadium. I don't even like the cardboard cut outs.

Visually appealing as opposed to the alternatives that is. Nothing beats a stadium packed full of fans.

Empty stadiums feel weird to me on TV. I had a (i think) Yankees game on TV in the background over the weekend and they had some cardboard cutouts behind home plate. I actually thought it looked decent. Even during a normal season watching a game played in, say Miami,, just feels a little odd. Fill those seats up baby! With whatever you've got.

I agree with this. I was looking forward to the emptiness. Added pressure from having nothing but silence. How long has it been for these guys since they played in front of no one but their teammates? Probably not even little league for a lot of them.

I lived through early 2000s Phillies baseball watching them play at an empty Vet, going to an empty (Insert whatever the Marlins park was called that da) and Shea Stadium. Maybe I find empty seats nostalgic.

I also find ballpark designs fascinating. Everything down to the scoreboards, concourses, ramps etc. I feel like the the empty stadium really makes the design stand out.

Good points. It will definitely be different. I believe it's just the national Fox games (not Fox Sports) that are getting the virtual crowds, so most games should still be empty on screen.

I was really cheering on the PNC Park idea. It's my favorite park and I'm going to miss seeing the Phillies taking a trip there this year. I'm kind of hoping for Camden Yards. I think they'll just end up in Buffalo though.
Their AAA affiliate is in Buffalo and the MiLB season was cancelled so Buffalo makes the most sense.
