Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I really enjoy JSBX and still LOL’d at this one. Bravo!
Agreed, but I don't even really count him as "blues"...
Pfft. Close enough. He did that record with RL Burnside and has “Blues” in his band’s name, what more do they have to do?. Next thing your gonna tell me is the Climax Blues Band isn’t a Blues band.

I mean, he HAS said before that they aren't blues.

Here, actually, starting at 2:07:

But if we are taking band names literally, then Ben Folds Five and Cap'n Jazz are in trouble.

It's been awhile since I've added anything constructive to this thread, but it's time.

I recognized the artwork for Spiritualized, but this band has somehow completely escaped my radar. I was at prime music discovery age when Ladies and Gentlemen was released, and I feel like this should have come up before. So I have to give credit where credit is due, VMP has surprised me with an excellent curated pick that I might have never given the time of day without their ROTM selection. I cannot wait to listen to this on my system, and now I cannot wait to receive this record (hopefully on time and in good condition).

Late to the party, but not mad about it today.

Same for me with this release. I was at uni when this was released, but I just can’t place the album at all. I was pretty much into the indie and Brit pop bands at the time and all my mates were too. So strange. However, listening to it, I really like it and I’m looking forward to hearing it loud.

I knew about it at the time, just because their previous incarnation was Spacemen 3, but never picked it up. If It's your thing I would recommend digging into Spacemen 3 a bit, I haven't heard all of their albums but my girlfriend at the time had some amazing Spacemen 3 12" singles.

I feel like I never heard him/them on the radio (most of their songs are probably too long for that), but I'd read about them and had a vague sense that I'd be into them but not enough to go out and buy a CD back then. I randomly decided to go through all of their albums four years ago on spotify and really enjoyed most of the discography. I remember seeing that they played at the 2018 Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona and the festival poster listed them as "SPIRITUALIZED with Orchestra and Choir" which sounded really cool.

Out of the whole Spacemen 3/Jason Pierce/Peter Kember family tree, Spiritualized are the most accessible in my opinion. There is so much back catalogue to mine if Ladies and Gentlemen... catches your attention. Goes from Spacemen 3 (the most garage-y) to EAR (the most experimental). I am more of a Spacemen 3/Peter Kember fan myself, though excited about a nice pressing of Ladies and Gentlemen. Love the drone of his Sonic Boom and Spectrum releases in the early 90s.

Hey, I need some advice. I’ve got a wave on De Stijl that’s more than I’m normally comfortable with, but it doesn’t affect playback. I’m not sure what VMP does replacements or credits for at this point, so I’m not sure if it’s worth contacting them. I posted the video below:

I appreciate any feedback!

Aw that's so sweet that you'd post this clip in here for all to see. Xoxo

I think you have a case if you wish to make one.

Definitely not the worst I've seen, but if you are uncomfortable with it, then contact customer service. They are so far behind on shipping out that WS album (from what I've read), you may not get one until September.

There is nothing more boring in the entire world of music than white blues. I'm not saying there is absolutely no good white blues, but more often than not it is the most unnecessary, redundant, self-fellating music on the planet.

well, if you like authentic blues you really gotta check out blueshammer. they're so great.

I think their latest policy (which might be obsolete these days, given the way VMP operates) was that they would refund or replace if you could fit a nickel under the warp.

I know most people here is excited about Spiritualized, but I'm actully pretty hyped about BVSC. To be honest I didn't hear this album until 5 years ago or so, but being Latinx, all the songs here sound extremely familiar tome. Some of the tunes here are sort of "Satandards", so I have heard other artists' performances since I was a child. But even those other songs that I had never heard before have something that bring back a ton of memories for me. Plus, the level of musicianship on this record sets it apart from the majority of other performances of the same songs, so, if you're getting just a couple of Latin records in your collection, this is definitely one to grab.

I’m very excited for BVSC. I almost purchased the Classics Record press a few months ago but the price was really high. Will probably sign up for 1 month again when that one comes out.

Thanks for this feedback! My “world music” (I know, I know, it’s a shitty term, but what am I to do) collection is small, but I like what I do have. I really enjoyed your N&G pick thread, and I respect your taste! I’m happy to get BVSC and add it to my stack!

Glad to help! This record is somewhat odd, since it was recorded relatively recently (so it is not as much of a Classic as other Latin albums), yet the compositions and performers are old. I don't know how to explain it, but I'm sure a bunch of other Latinos will agree that hearing this album for the first time feels new, yet familiar.

A few years back(2015 if I recall correctly) BVSC with some of the original member did an "Adios Tour" and one of the stops was Mexico City at the Auditorio. I managed to be in town for those days and grabbed some tickets. The concert was awesome and had everyone up from their seats dancing(even my friend who wasn't really that excited to go lol), it was great.

I’m very excited for BVSC! I rejoined VMP just to ensure that I could grab it and Spiritualized.
