Discogs - Help, Tricks, Secrets And Tips

Glad I missed all the excitement with the images on the Beatles Mono Box.

I see @GentleSenator helped fix it.

This type of thing has happened quite a few times recently. I think the Covid has people at home needing money and new to Discogs...or at least new to selling on Discogs.

what a royal pain! the amount of confused one must be to think that disabling dozens of images in order to host their own photo so they can sell something really boggles the mind.

I just wanna say ya both are saints. I see both of your names attached to lots edits cleaning shit up on there. I appreciate the efforts you both put forth on Discogs.

Thanks. I try to fix things without pissing people off....but that happens sometimes.

Collecting and cataloging doesn't always agree with a database and that does get me in some trouble with some of the more seasoned users there.

Discogs is rather petty imo

I’ve just added a new order box set that has the odd misprint on some labels showing 33 instead of 45rpm , the main cover is the same on all of them but they keep disabling it because the original listed copied the cover over , despite the variation being on the labels.. so I’m gonna have to take my own photos to add in ..first lister has given up

wondering if it's a deliberate troll or a hopelessly confused dolt.

Seems like the latter.

I googled him. Seems he's a Harvard grad.

He also responded to the thread where I pinged him...

LOL he went to Harvard and works for a museum and doesn't understand how to archive/catalog/follow directions.

some dude just added all of the pixies 2004 and later official bootleg releases to one master release

LOL, people are gonna be pissed. Lots of cavalier people on Discogs during the time of Covid.

I think this was allowed recently - as a compromise for all these live shows taking up the "albums" it was allowed to combine all releases from the same tour.

and see this master...

That user should have posted a link to the forum, tho - as the EI votes he got are understandable without showing there has been a discussion.

Once work starts on the Pearl Jam and Metallica releases then we'll probably see more people having issues.

I bought a Dead live set on Discogs brand new and sealed. Arrived today and I noticed a gash/chip on the last side. Causes a pop for around 24 rotations, not the worst sounding in the world, but still noticeable. I am going to report it back to the seller. Wondering what is the expectation for me? Do I ask for a return? partial refund? I've bought less than a dozen things from Discogs so this is my first instance of damage not already advertised.

You should be pretty high by the last side, but if not I'd return for a full refund.

Depends on the seller, some will ask ya to send it back and issue a full refund, but if you are comfortable with it (but not the price ya paid) you can always propose a partial refund. Depending on the sell they might not wanna mess around with refunds and returns so as long as your reasonable this can be a good way to go.
BTW, which Dead Live set did ya pick up if ya do t mind me askin?

The seller is odd. Less than 100 sales, but the record came in with a receipt from Popmarket. Dunno if it's Popmarket under the guise of an individual seller or an individual seller who just had it from Popmarket initially. I think I'll just ask for a small partial and be done with it.

It's this show:
Fillmore East 2-11-69 Grateful Dead* - Fillmore East 2-11-69

Which song? Because if it was the cover of Hey Jude, the defect is doing you a favor to give a reason to skip it.
