Fair to say both of these are essential to any jazz collection. Thanks to @Selaws for the Real McCoy PIF which I claimed a few days after McCoy Tyner's passing. RIP.

The Makaya was a good deal on dodax and I'm happy to say it's actually the version that's pressed at Pallas - I believe IA does all their stuff there now but the first run of these were not at Pallas.

I'm delighted that a small store in Belgium came through on this for me. It's the red vinyl version which has now gone out of print.

Glad the McCoy Tyner got to you. Sorry for the delay bud, this lockdowns been a nightmare.

Radio Dept. - Pet Grief
Blake Mills - Heigh Ho
House Of X/Power Of X
by Jonathan Hickman & Pepe Larraz

The Radio Dept. was a pre-order of the just so! Blue wax reissue. I ordered it back in February and it was mailed out in late March but Covid-19 delayed the postage by a few weeks, happy to have it in hand.

If I recall I think @MikeH fiirst mention Blake Mills a long while ago and while I downloaded this LP I never gave it a proper listen but after Pitchfork gave his upcoming LP a Best New Music designation I figured I would give it a go and I really enjoyed it (I pre-ordered his new one too).

Last up is book one of the new Hickman X-Men series. I haven not yet read any of it but Hickman and the X-Men have always been favorites of mine so I can’t wait to dive in.

Yea! I Love that Blake Mills record. Have to check out the new one but I really love Heigh Ho. And my copy of the pressing sounds really awesome.

Arrivals from the past couple of days including the replacement for the white Floating Points and the spare copy of the Khruangbin sleeve as mine (purchased elsewhere) was creased. Funnily enough they sent the gatefold sleeve and I only have the single LP version so that was kind of cool to see and is now a weird quirk in the collection. Nice of them to send and it arrived less than 24hrs after the initial call so brilliant service from LateNightTales 🌃👍

Floating Points - LateNightTales (White Vinyl)
Khruangbin - The Universe Smiles Upon You

Also 21/1000 and newbie error #34: thought it would be numbered somewhere other than the sticker on the shrink wrap. Ripped it off as I usually do and nada. So I've carefully cut out the (pristine, at least) sticker and popped it inside ✂. A note to the future to only open the side on some.

Having been duped out of Black Pumas by the dastardly VMP swap squad 🦹 I thought toss to that and ordered a copy anyway. They're tied with Durand Jones as my favourite group of late and needed one one way or the other. As and where I can pick them up they're the first group I feel compelled to try and built a collection for (not least working out as both they and I are new).

Managed to find the Deluxe Splatter edition for normal retail price from a record store I didn't even know existed that turned out to be about 10m from me. So a win all around. It arrived immaculately and I think it looks stunning personally. Absolutely love it.

Black Pumas - Black Pumas (Deluxe Splatter w/ CD)
Half Waif - Lavender (Amethyst)
The Strokes - The New Abnormal (Red Opaque)

Half Waif is because I've enjoyed her other album so much and the Amethyst colour is gorgeous to boot. Strokes I've not broken into much at all so thought this was a worthwhile pick up as I spotted it at the same time as BP. Only awful thing is I thought the clear wrap was a normal sticker (with the tracklist on etc.) and didn't want to remove it and it then pick up all manner of bits over time so instead cut down the side 😓😥. Now I know it's supposed to be reusable I feel like a bit of a tit and unsure whether to reorder as it's a nice edition and is still available. Seems a waste of money but that stupid feeling of messing up is equally awful 🌧

Wrapping up and back to the positive we have my first Vinyl Moon delivery 🙌🌒 and have to say, it exceeded expectations. It's slightly larger than even the large for triple-gatefold sleeves but comes with its own thick one that works well. Sleeve itself is thicker than you'd even expect with me saying thick. Has a lovely insert (that the record is resting on below) with this month's tracks and a couple of nice art cards. It's a pretty neat thing, so kudos Vinyl Moon ⭐

Im gunna be honest with you there is no messing up, we all do our own thing. I hate shrink so I wouldn’t have even kept that sticker and I slit the sticker on the strokes too because unsticking and sticking each time would drive me nuts...

You continue to be the voice of reassurance Joe, thank you (y). That was what I thought re: The Strokes as could see the bubbling under it already and thought it would pick up bits over time (in addition to the faff of taking it off/on every time). Glad to hear that wasn't a far-out idea for a solution, will keep it as is with a smile. Looks brand new when in a sleeve and keeps the 'strip' untouched. That green grass can keep to its side of the fence.

Fair on the shrink as well. I've thought about it before with ones with stickers on but either was too excited and completely forgot before ripping it open or just didn't think it worth it. Was only with this being numbered and finding out after the fact that it wasn't anywhere else that gave me a sliver of regret. The white vinyl and music itself is what's nice though, not six numbers on a piece of shrink wrap. That weird duality to where none of this is with the intention of selling it later but at the same time wanting to preserve them in the best way possible for your own enjoyment. Coming from a background in pixel/print-perfect design it's been a, shall we say, battle, to overcome caring too much about the more slight creases and dings on the few that have them 😂 😅

Awesome pickups! I gotta check out vinyl moon one of these days...LNT continues to be one of my favorite labels. They have always been awesome to deal with if I ever have issues.

we all do it differently. Some people love the originality of the shrink and the stickers, there are people who have never seen the inside of their gatefolds because of it. That seems nuts to me, but there is no wrong way, whatever floats your boat is the way you should go. For me, I don’t buy to collect, i buy to use and enjoy, others think differently!

Im a bit on the weird side with mine, but at least I know it. I will take shrink off regardless of age etc and cut around any stickers and pop them in the outersleeve. I usually add gig tickets in with the record associated with that group. Its a nice little memento which is always nice to see when you forget they are in there. I also try to buy a record in each country I go to and with those I add a small square of paper in the outersleeve with the year, shop, location, etc as another memento. The tangibility of records is what first got me into them.

Thank you and that's great news to know in light of not having had any so far. Always reassuring. I thought it was just going to be a single sleeve with the coloured record and a single page insert of tracks. Very pleased with it and excited to see what's next! Presentation is... ... ..out of this world! 🥁💥

Definitely, whatever makes each happy. Probably feeling the packaging side a little more with the turntable/stand still being in progress and thus lacking the actual use side. The presentation and physicality has already brought great joy though. Going from having some albums that I've loved but mostly known as the small square in corner of Spotify to holding them full size, feeling them, looking at the insert and notes and actually being able to hold the music – it's quite a special thing. CD's were never like that for me.

I'll always be with you on the gatefolds too, among the most exciting are where I hadn't realised one was one, like with Van Morrison having assumed all single LP's were without, and having that surprise. Always fun to slowly open it and reveal whatever's within.

oh yeah I agree. I love packaging and nice editions too but I consider the whole package as something to be used and enjoyed, rather than preserved as new. That’s said I do look after my records well too lol.

I have started using a hair dryer to heat up the hype stickers then peel them off and then affix them on to the clear outter sleeve. I enjoy ephemeral items like this, it only takes a little extra work so why the heck not.

One of the first records I ever bought! I originally wanted to get a turntable in high school so I could buy some Nick Drake records probably because his music was in Royal Tennenbaums or something. I remember getting an Acoustic Sounds catalogue in the mail for some reason and seeing there was a Nick Drake box set coming out, so I saved up my money for what felt like ages and bought it.

Last summer, my girlfriend (now fiancée) ’s parents stayed with us and her dad was looking through my record collection. He’s from the UK but is a huge fan of Dylan, John Prine and the like. He was really excited to see the Nick Drake box set and I won some major brownie points with him haha
