Motion to revisit this please?

We're the N&G forum. No other club has as many threads as VMP. I have more thoughts but won't spew them if this is not a discussion we want to re-open. Hopefully it can be a civil and rational discussion. :)
Hey T, sorry for the slightly delayed response. Not many admins and mods are on over the weekend and I’m pulling mom duty but I just wanted to offer my own personal opinion that you’ve made a valid inquiry and it’s something I still think about.

My own thoughts are mixed. I see both sides. From a purely user standpoint, I do find it easier to navigate the conversations when they’re separate given the level of activity they get. For good or ill, many of our members still have lots to say about vmp (both good and bad). And from a moderator standpoint, I find it easier to keep track of these conversations in separate threads. And then there’s the other side where I do understand the view that there appears to be a disparity. I wish other clubs and labels had more product. I personally am not opposed to separate threads for other clubs if the situation warrants. I do occasionally wish that interest in vmp would lessen and those threads will be less active but I don’t know if i like the idea of trying to stifle it by reducing the number. But I don’t know.

I realize that’s not really an answer or a way forward but I think it’s good we keep discussing things like this and I’m sorry that you got some off-putting responses. You do make this place better. ❤️

That sounds like a great opportunity for that private business to run a forum of their own.
Sure...But then you could say the same about Secretly Society, Blue Note, Soul Step, etc. People only want to seem to remove the VMP threads because they are active. There are plenty of threads around here to participate in that are non VMP. I’m personally fine with having all of them around. If VMP is a shit show, so be it. There’s clearly an interest in VMP stuff here though so trying to drive those people out just seems against the spirit of this whole forum.

Well, they also may want to remove VMP because they're still angry at VMP for the old forum deletion and numerous issues, which I get and can totally empathize with. I just don't see the harm in keeping threads for VMP if people still wish to use them and not pollute other forums or threads with VMP talk.

You appear to be missing the point. The Secretly Society, Blue Note and Soul Step businesses each have one thread. No one is saying that VMP should not have a thread. People are saying that they should just have ONE thread.

To which I'll ask, do those business each have 3 distinct offerings that you can subscribe to? If they do, I wouldn't see any issue with having separate threads for those.

To which I’d reply has any of these businesses taken a look at this community, decided it doesn’t want it, abandoned it to be homeless with just 48 hours notice and decided that it’d rather talk into the sewer that is reddit.

Strongly agree with this. It’s not a black and white issue. If other clubs had more product I’d 100% be in support of having more than one thread for each. But most of the other online clubs release 1 album a month and very few, if any, exclusives. I only really am interested by the Classics track and sometimes store exclusives so I wouldn’t enjoy having it all in one condensed thread. I haven’t really seen many issues with having separate threads outside of people philosophically being against VMP having any real estate here at all. I understand people rightfully still have bad feelings toward VMP after what they did and how they mostly operate now. But I also don’t really see any problems with having those threads as people still subscribe to VMP. It’s way less toxic here (for the most part) than some of the reddit posts and I like having our own community here where people can discuss whatever clubs, threads etc they want. Trying to condense all threads into one VMP thread seems more harmful than helpful since I’m not really sure what issue needs fixing other than VMP threads being more active than other threads.

To which I'll reply, all of that happened with VMP and people still want to talk about them. You feel this way, yet you are still in there too.

I disagree. I think the toxicity is better hidden until someone disageees. The invective @Teeeee was subjected to for merely wanting to reopen a discussion proves this.

And there's no toxicity to people who still want to discuss VMP? Things like negative emojis for people you disagree with? Or fire emojis for people who you feel burn someone with a post?

It is not an issue. These are USER CREATED threads. And they are popular. There is no reason to consolidate them for some overarching philosophical (frankly dogmatic) concern that would only serve to rob the community of an opportunity to communicate in its own chosen fashion. No thread takes anything away from any other thread.

That’s a very negative view of that emoji! I’ve always used it to state that someone’s opinion/record posted/etc was “on fire”. The other two I only use when an opinion genuinely saddens or angers me.

Yeah they’re a record store. I’ll occasionally want to buy something they release, but I’ll avoid it and look for alternatives where possible because I don’t like them. I have a similar attitude towards amazon.

Fair play. I just tend to ignore the people doing that and try to focus on people actually having a discussion.

As far as the "invective" and all that, I really just skim this forum for info. Connect with people once in a while to make a trade or do the Secret Santa or whatever. I rarely notice what is upsetting everyone interpersonally until they are already upset.

EDIT: I just looked at my post count versus quite a lot of you. Damn.
