All of these records were fine selections, and now I am intrigued to explore more of The Books' efforts. Some of the songs on the album above SLAP ("The Bad Ends All," "Mikey Bass") which I was not expecting! Jim O'Rourke is certainly taking time for me to digest, though.

Can't believe I didn't have Gigi Masin's debut until now. Delicate warbling synths and pianos with Masin's occasional delayed vocals make for a serene listen. Beautiful reissue.
Originally released in 1988, this is the only studio release of Canadian new age duo Vernal Equinox. Almost crosses over to the synthpop realm, so that was quite an unexpected surprise! Great sound quality on this 2xLP reissue, and on a limited run.
Música Esporádica is the collective name of six new age/ambient Spanish and American musicians. Being that this is a Music From Memory release (currently most recent), it was a no-brainer for me. Looking forward for what's to come from this label next year!

If you enjoy house music, 2012-2017 is essential, even if it is only a year old. Incredible production, and banger after banger. One of my top 10 from last year.
Only discovered her two years ago, and now LP1 sits in my collection. Björk and Kate Bush fans will certainly enjoy, and perhaps Portishead as well.
As for another artist I have found recently, Marissa Nadler is quite a hidden gem. Her music and voice is beautiful, yet melancholic and brooding altogether. Sort of like Chelsea Wolfe, although not quite as dark and harrowing. She is very much on my "would love to see live" list!

First of all two boxsets. One is a 10LP Nat King Cole Trio set from Resonance records. Highly recommend for fans of Nat and his trio, although quite expensive (per lp it isn't too bad, but as a whole set it is). Second one is a Japanese Jazz box from the label Three Blind Mice. I have to give a huge, and I mean huge, shoutout to @HuddieLedbetter, who personally delivered this set to me in Amsterdam. Saved me a ton in shipping and custom charges.

Second are some random pickups and a few BFRSD items that I could get in Europe. First are two J-Jazz reissues from BBE: Makoto Terashita Meets Harold Land - Topology and Miyasaka + 5 - Animals Garden. I also got the Willie Colon Christmas record, with my favourite salsa track La Murga. I have been on the look out for that JJ Cale and Eric Clapton record forever, so very happy I finally found it. The John Lee Hooker album is a live album they reissued for BFRSD. Great stuff. Wilson Pickett I just bought for the cover. The Parker Jam Session compiles all the jam sessions Charlie Parker did with Bennie Carter and Johnny Hodges for Norman Granz in the 50s. Incredible line up besides the three Alto legends: Buddy Rich, Ben Webster, Oscar Peterson, Barney Kessel and Ray Brown, just to name a few. Finally, Bill Evans - The Village Vanguard Sessions combines the classic Waltz for Debby and Sunday at the Village Vanguard into a double LP package. From what i've read the most cost effective way to get a good AAA pressing of both albums.

One of my best hauls of the year and it finally arrived. This has been at my local depot for just over 2 weeks now. Parcelforce wouldn't let me pick it up in person before it had a delivery attempt....but also wouldn't attempt to deliver. Luckily they passed it over to Royal Mail who knocked on my door to deliver and wish me a Merry Christmas at 7am this morning! So, here we go:

Red Garland - Red In Bluesville (Prestige, 1959 First Mono Pressing, Deep Groove)
The Billboard review at the time cracks me up, 'Red Garland presents attractive blues piano....Good wax for those who like blues and Garland'.
The Ray Draper Quintet Featuring John Coltrane (New Jazz, 1958 First Mono Pressing, Deep Groove)
This is the killer pick up, an amazing second album by Ray Draper, with John Coltrane. This album was really well received at the time and all eyes were on Draper, unfortunately, he became heavily addicted to drugs and later died at 42 when a 13-year old gang leader shot him.
Sonny Rollins - The Bridge (RCA Victor, 1962 First Mono Pressing, Deep Groove)
After releasing some big hits, Rollins took a break to remove himself from the limelight. He found a hidden raised platform on the Williamsburg Bridge and would play there for hours, battling the wind. He then released this record, naming it after his secret spot.

Such a killer line up on this one, which was Davis' second quintet. With Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter & Tony Williams.
Lee Morgan - Caramba (Blue Note, 1968 First Stereo Pressing)
Well on the way to completing the Morgan discography as lead. This is a fantastic session!

Galaxie 500 today. I actually bought what I thought was the 2009 black RE but it seems I got the recent limited red/black marble from Newbury (did not buy from Newbury and did not have Newbury sticker)

Received the first order from the uDiscover sale! Unfortunately they packed them like asshats, with only a piece of bubble wrap sitting on top of the stack of records. Needless to say, most have small corner dings. Looking forward to getting to all these though!
