I think if VMP comes out and tells buyers that they were never promised an authentic reproduction of the cover art, this would just go nuclear.

The back cover just looks so fucking tacky now though. Like even if we weren’t going to get the original liner notes, at least just have that picture and get everything else out of there and make sure the credits are right.
And this is their problem ALL THE TIME. Like taking forever to tell us whether Horace Silver would be mono or stereo. "We just wanted to be absolutely certain so we could give you accurate information..." How do they not know what they're ordering? How do you plan a potentially amazing flagship product like this and have no one look it over with a collector's eye?
I mostly stopped ordering from them a few years ago when I realized that no one involved with the company really knows any more about music than I do. But even I seem to know more about what record collectors want than they do?

Everything But the Girl is issuing Amplified Heart for the first time ever on vinyl...they had an issue with some of the original artwork so they worked hard to come up with a compromise, and were up front about it (vs. just doing it then seeing if anyone would catch them) Transparency goes a long way, VMP!
"Assembling the artwork was difficult. Ben and Tracey's own label Buzzin' Fly Records acquired the rights to the album from Warner Music in 2017, but Warner had lost or disposed of original photography. As a result, the new front cover was sourced from the original photographer who did not have the exact frame but was able to provide the near-identical one taken a fraction of a second later. Similarly, the original back cover photo - taken from a hotel room at night in Osaka by Ben in 1992 - was nowhere to be found; instead, Ben unearthed the original negatives and selected a new photo of a Japanese bullet train taken the same night with a similar atmosphere for the new back cover. English fashion and art photographer Corinne Day's iconic portraits of the duo that made up the centrefold of the original CD booklet were also lost; with only scans of the booklet prints to work from, the images were digitally de-noised and - unable to be enlarged further - were used for the new vinyl's labels."

Yeah, honestly the laziness of not updating the credits bugs me more than it not being a replica. Should say "remastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio..."

That's some horseshit . Tell me that Blue Note artwork is 100% not available and the best they could do on earth is buy some busted up crate copies so they HAD to go with the CD? This is Blue Note. Somebody somewhere has that art- they could have put out a plea for high end collectors to retain collector copies of this to use for the reissue.

Guessing nobody at BN has that font on their PCs to retype the original rear sleeve either? Weird reasoning to me, I just can't imagine a plain text on white image is that hard to replicate from scratch.

Ron Rambach at Music Matters Jazz doesn't seem to have these same issues in terms of front and rear cover art. Interesting response.
i can't find music matter doing a pressing of this specific album..
if someone else did a vinyl reissue of this that had the original back cover than yeah i see the criticism... but im wanting to take vmp by their word and not feel like i wasted 4 years of my life and thousands of dollars on bad thing

But honestly Dukey, you don't need to feel that way. I don't! I think they've offered some wonderful products over the years. This is however, IMO taking shortcuts and on their most premium product to date. There had to have been other options, some more costly, some more time consuming, but this was the easiest and I think that's what people are a little cross about.
Yeah this response is some serious bullshit. There is absolutely no way I believe that plain text on a white background was not able to be recreated, ESPECIALLY given that this album has already been reissued in the last 10 or so years twice without this problem.
What disgusts me further are the people on that thread shilling for the company and blissfully unaware of the reality of the situation.
First, I don't think you should equate a release error to wasting 4 years & $$ on a company. You can be happy with a company and your decision to support them while still be displeased with a specific product offering. That's actually how I feel at this moment. Do I like VMP as a company? Sure. Did I collect damn near everything they've ever put out? Yep. Do I regret it? Nope.
But I still wish a bit more care went into them creating the Anthology because of the price of entry and the level of prestige gained by working this closely with BN on a release.
Also, I should have been more specific in my other post. I wasn't trying to say that MMJ has done a press of this specific album, only that they have made a BUSINESS of reissuing old BN releases and the amount of attention to detail in their releases is exceptional. They go out of their way to reproduce the original offerings as closely as possible and have been very successful while doing it. What I was trying to say is that something like this wouldn't have happened with them.

but i do wonder if they did just do shortcuts or they are telling the truth.. i wonder why they didn't just use photoshop to get the text (my guess is it wouldn't be an exact replica).
