I read something today about McConnell’s strategy to try and dismiss the charges quickly if it gets to the Senate. But the trial will be presided over by Chief Justice Roberts, which means they’d have to convince him the case has no merit. They also want to accomplish that as quickly as possible, but Roberts will also have to juggle his Supreme Court cases that are already on the books. So if he doesn’t dismiss, and the trial drags on, it could get to a point where it’s too politically damaging to Repub senators *not* to remove him.The only way woukd be if the evidence and charged was so overwhelming that they have no choice. But maybe not even then.
Lots of ifs and buts, but Republicans seem to be preparing for the House to hold their vote by Thanksgiving.
