Weezer/Modest Mouse/Momma
Got to our seats on the lawn just in time for Momma to start. I dug them, but definitely need to grow into their sound a little more to be on a stage like this.
Modest Mouse is one of my least favorite indie bands probably ever. I've walked away the last two times I've had to endure them (Forecastle 2017 headliner and opening for The Black Keys in 18 or 19). I sat through the whole set tonight. Didn't enjoy it, but I heard it.
Weezer was also a little disappointing tonight. Rivers kinda slept walked through the set and had some technical issues as well. Set design was really cool though.

I think this is the third time I've seen The Minus 5 in the last 3 or 4 months. This time with Elf Power and The No One's opening. Debbi Peterson from The Bangles joining in this time. Definite old tall guy indie rock, but noticed a lot more ladies here than expected. The Minus 5 lineup changes a lot, but this version was just ripping it up!

Bruno Mars at the Olympics Stadium in Seoul, Korea
It was a very entertaining show, even though it was a bit short. Mars sang most of his hits and did it well, but still the setlist didn't include several songs fans wanted to hear (Gorilla, It Will Rain, Count on Me, Skate, etc.).
Had a row 7 seat among many celebrities and richies who came as guests for a credit card company that sponsored the event. These folks were wearing black wristbands to identify themselves as such. As you can expect from such a crowd, the response was a bit subdued in my section, but who cares? I had a lot of fun dancing and singing along.

Fleet Foxes were great. The opener Uwade sang a few of her own songs and also sang with Fleet Foxes for a few.
They do have a decent light show and in between songs, they like to interact with the crowd, which was neat.

TLC/Shaggy/En Vogue/Sean Kingston
Missed Sean because I forgot my pass at home and had to circle back. En Vogue sounded great and I knew more songs than I thought I would. I didn't realize a member of TLC had passed away. Their set was fine. Knew the hits obviously. Shaggy was funny but the music was all over in terms of quality.

The Cure. Sunday, June 18th in "Boston," but really Mansfield, MA, Xfinity Center. I scored 16th row tix, so this is barely zoomed in.
It was unreal. Nearly three hours long, 6 new unrecorded songs, and so many of the classics. They played half of Disintegration and half of The Head on the Door. Robert Smith's voice was better at this show than in 1992 and 2016 when I saw them. I don't know how this is possible. I'm still riding the high from this show four days later. It's like the longest lasting gummy I ever took.

Modest Mouse was awesome on Saturday night. They played a new-to-me venue in Grand Rapids - GLC Live at 20 Monroe. A 2600 seat theater, we had mezz seats and it all looked and sounded great. The opener was Mattress. I loved what he was doing. Usually I'm hoping an opener plays just a few songs, but I was transfixed and wanted more. I met him at the merch table after and he was just as strange in person as on stage.
And, don't you all love when an artists plays your first favorite song? MM played Gravity Rides Everything, which was my introduction to them. So awesome.

Blue Ox was great! Caught at least a little bit of 90% of these bands. Besides the backwood stage one band ends then the next one start on the stage across the field.

Charlie Crocket his set got cut short but was really good.
Avett Brothers first time seeing them with all the extra band members.
Mike Gordon his solo stuff isn’t my cup of tea but live was good and danceable. Guess we missed a great Cities. Left early for the late night show that night.
Feed the Talking Dog is feed the dog but they played Talking Heads songs. Great way to end the fest.
Charlie Crocket his set got cut short but was really good.

The Grey Eagle might hold 400 or so. This show has the potential to physically collapse this place.

Last minute road trip to Pittsburgh to see My Morning Jacket? Yes!
Last minute move from an outdoor venue to an indoor one because of wildfire smoke? Yes, please!
Getting our faces melted with my first full Run Thru and what may have been the best non-festival set I've seen from them? Ahhhhh!
My Morning Jacket was a formative band for me. I listened to It Still Moves to and from high school every day. I missed last year's tour due to my son being born, and I missed the Cincinnati show earlier this week because of other plans. But I was not going to miss this one!
Opener Karl Denson's Tiny Universe was also pretty great. The dude is ripped and had a killer flute solo.
