DAY 29 – No Alternative [album reference: the 90's compilation]

Play any compilation of songs. No theme necessary

Various - Bad Education Vol 1: Soul Hits of Timmion Records

I have a ton of comps from Numero, but decided to go with this gem from Daptone/Timmion Records.

DAY 30 – No Country For Old Men.
Spin a soundtrack to a movie, a TV show, your job... get weird if you want!

For a 12-year-old in the early 90’s who was discovering this music, it wasn’t a game-changer... it was a life-changer.

And every damn song still holds up!

Various ‎– The Sopranos - Peppers & Eggs - Music From The HBO Original Series

This is a fun comp; lots of great songs and a very eclectic mix. I definitely remember some of these from the show's run, like the Every Breath You Take/Peter Gunn mash-up
One that grabbed me on my last listen was Thru and Thru by The Stones. Keith sings it, and it's got such a great atmosphere about it, especially with the season ending montage they used it for.

The color is 'Prozac and spilled booze" but I think blood splatter might have been more fitting.

I am pretty sure this was an early RSD release that I picked up mainly because I thought it would be neat to own the Pretty In Pink soundtrack on pink vinyl. My, how things have changed. Nowadays, it would shock me if they ever repressed the LP NOT on pink wax. Anyways it’s a splendid new wave soundtrack and OMD’s “If You Leave” is heavenly.

DAY 31 – The Voyager Golden Record
Play an album featuring a song you would want on the next Golden Record to represent our planet!
Songs: Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co.

By the time intelligent life finds the golden record I am sure we will all be long gone. What a better track to go out to than “Farewell Transmission”? They might not get much from us but at least they will know we had spirit.

That’s a Wrap. Thanks @MadLucas for putting this on for the month. It’s been a blast!

I am really glad March is finally Fuckin’ over.

Lost in Translation

I’m still surprised Kevin Shields participated in something that allowed less than 100% full creative control. I’m sure he regrets it for some reason.

John paints a pretty clear picture of human life (American at least). Every lyric on here is still relevant (for better or worse). I expect they still will be for years to come.

I had this back in the day on cassette - but never felt the need to own it again until last week.

Thanks for hosting this month, @MadLucas
Looks like no one wants to pick this up for April, but with all going on I can see taking a break.

David Byrne - American Utopia

May as well send up something new from a musical genius.

And I think for a specific song, especially considering today's world, I'll go with Everyone's Coming to My House

20200401_170818.jpg

I wish I was a camera
I wish I was a postcard
I welcome you to my house
You didn't have to go far
A house and a garden
There are, there's plants and trees
Make a, a closer inspection
If you get, get down on your knees
Now everybody's coming to my house
And I'm never gonna  be alone
And everybody's coming to my house
And they're never gonna go back home
I'm pointing and describing
And I can be your guide
The skin is just a roadmap
The view is very nice
Imagine looking at a picture
Imagine driving in a car
Imagine rolling down the window
Imagine opening the door
Everybody's coming to my house
Everybody's coming to my house
I'm never gonna be alone
And they're never gonna go back home
We're only tourists in this life
Only tourists but the view is nice
And we're never gonna go back home
No we're never gonna go back home (all right)
We're only tourists in this life
Only tourists but the view is nice
Now everybody's coming to my house
And I'm never gonna be alone
And everybody's coming to my house
And they're never gonna go back home
Everybody is coming to my house
Everybody is coming to my house
I'm never gonna be alone
And I'm never gonna go back home
