Snagged the numbered mono clear from the band website and the Vortex LP signed jacket/cd bundle from Recordstore.uk
Yeahhhhh, I got on close to the ground floor when I grabbed the VMP press of the last one, which is now worth something silly... But I'm not going to chase variants on this one since obviously there was gunna be about a trillion of them. The signed would be cool but I'm not paying $65 for it. I'll just wait it out and see which one is the most reasonably priced. Also a limited clear version mastered in Mono

There is something kinda disgusting about people profiting off Joe's mam's ashes like that, I don't generally hate resellers but this rubs me the wrong way a bitYeahhhhh, I got on close to the ground floor when I grabbed the VMP press of the last one, which is now worth something silly... Although really, if I ACTUALLY got in on the ground floor with these guys I'd have a copy of Brutalism that's pressed with the lead singers mother's ashes.
Idles - Brutalism
It's off-putting for sure, but I mean if you're going to press 100 copies of it, it's the only way this was ever going to go. Maybe if you pressed 10 or 15 and gave it only to close friends and family and whatnot, but with 100 there's always gunna be people selling them...There is something kinda disgusting about people profiting off Joe's mam's ashes like that, I don't generally hate resellers but this rubs me the wrong way a bit

I mean, you're right, but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't really thinking about it like that when they pressed it. It was a really cool idea, I don't think you need to blame Joe for not flipper proofing it. He clearly wanted fans to be able to participate, so I think that was a good thing, but it sucks that people bought it who don't give a shit about the gravity of the artifact, even if it was to be expected. It's off-putting for sure, but I mean if you're going to press 100 copies of it, it's the only way this was ever going to go. What marketing tactics? Pressing his mom's ashes into his first record?Isn’t this group a pro-socialist one? I mean I identify with a lot of socialism marks as well, but these marketing tactics don’t seem to be aligned with their message.
Oh I don't blame him in the least. I'm not mad about it one bit, I think it's really cool what he did and his reasoning for doing it. I'm just saying from a practical sense, more copies means more aftermarket sellers. I have no idea if he cares one way or the other if they're being sold. But I don't think I can just label someone a "flipper" who sold a piece of art 3 years after it was released, for its current market value. I mean if that was the case every painting in the world would only be worth the price of the paint and canvas it's painted on.I mean, you're right, but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't really thinking about it like that when they pressed it. That's true. I guess it is easier to comprehend if some painter from 200 years ago put his mother's ashes into a painting it may be worth more. I guess it feels different since it is still so recent, even though it isn't necessarily.Oh I don't blame him in the least. Willing to bet the shipping is baked into the cost. I mean, it's 50 dollars.I was hoping it was crazy shipping to make me not tempted....but its free shipping to the US.
I don't see how a bunch of options catering to different peoples tastes is a negative in that context. As long as there's some resonable priced widely available options. Just comes off as trying to please everyone to me.sorry, I should have been more specific.I was referring to all the endless variants and what not that fetch a high price on a secondary market. There’s certain things that artists do that bode into a flipper culture and while I don’t see that happening on an egregious level here I do see some questionable stuff. Also I don’t know if a crazy secondary market is more anti-socialism or pro-socialism... but it just doesn’t feel right, like people buying a bunch of Che Guevara merch.

I think your argument makes a lot more sense for some of the people in the hip hop world who only do tiny limited releases and say they'll "never press again."

Mr. B
Chet Baker (1929 – 1988) was an American jazz trumpeter, actor and vocalist that needs little introduction. Baker earned much attention and critical praise through the 1950s but his well-publicized drug habit also drove his notoriety (he was in and out of jail frequently beforelightintheattic.net

Kinda reminds me of when Mark Gruenwald had his ashes mixed into the ink that was used to print the Squadron Supreme trade paperbacks in the 90s.That's true. True, but you ended up saving $1.25 or something if you ordered 3 CDs vs 1. I ended up just ordering 1 and it came to $10 or something shipped.
1 was $10 but 3 was $14 shipped, and $10 shipped if you have the red card. I'm not seeing this up for sale anywhere else right now so I'm not even sure how much it retails for, but guess we'll see how it shakes out.
Found out the other day that Real Gone Music will be reissuing another pressing of Walkin' My Cat Named Dog by Norma Tanega. It's not up for pre-order yet but should be in the coming weeks. For those of you who watch What We Do In The Shadows, you may recognize one of the songs on the album:
