But it does look like the standard black is limited - the 2 day countdown seems to suggest this is going to be a time-limited release. Am I misinterpreting?

Fuck That. I almost purchased House Of Balloons but then I saw the release date was literally a full year from now March 2022. I can’t do year long pre-orders, sorry.

Standard should be widely available.
The countdown for those drops are basically only for the merch - not the music.
Additionally, the email has only been mentioning the "1,000 LIMITED-EDITION VINYLS WITH REIMAGINED COVER ART".
The 1k part has now been removed from the listing and they're just pressing as much as they like - all that money, the money is the motive...
But I'm glad that mostly everyone has a chance to secure a copy.
What I'm not happy with is that they've been clearly falsely advertising this product and are still charging $100 for a regular, limited 2xLP - just because they can.
Oh, and by the way: "the vinyl will be added to local market shops as soon as possible"

With the Weeknd vinyl, I assume they're selling it as a piece of art as much as the vinyl? That's the only justification for the price, Neil Young just did the same thing with After The Gold Rush
Sorry to be that guy again, but... why does it matter/would you want it any release to be limited in quantity???

Collectability. Lots of people collect records as a hobby beyond just as a medium by which to enjoy music.
Collecting is fine. I just don’t see why one’s joy should be to other people’s detriment. Everyone who wants one should be able to get one.

Oh I don’t care one bit about that. Frankly I want supply to keep up with demand for everything. I don’t collect to flip later, I listen to everything I buy. I just wanted a copy of the album with the original samples in tact and I saw reports that it was limited to 1000. Turns out that the limited edition was the clear vinyl and $100 ha! I want everyone to get a copy of it if they want it.

Guys, I am right there with ya. Artificial scarcity is dumb but it’s part of the hobby.
It wasn’t always the case, which is why I resent it so much. That plus the ridiculous rising prices are really souring me on this hobby.

Amen. A lot of my collection is from a local store here and their tags on their used records have the price and the month/year it came into the store and it’s wild what you could get for under $10 in like 2003-8
