November 2020 Challenge Thread: The End Is Near

Day 2: Anticipation
It's Election Day in the US tomorrow. Feeling excited, hopeful, scared, all of the above? Play an album that reflects your mood.

The War and Treaty - Healing Tide

I'm scared, and very anxious. But overall I'd really love to see the beginning of a healing of the nation.

A big, blue healing tide.

I want to feel hopeful, but I really want to...

Day 2: Anticipation
Neko Case - The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You

The title really sums up how I'm feeling, and my politics in general. I believe in deep, radical love, and that motivates my commitment to social justice and libertarian socialism (yes baby, I'm am anarchist). Whatever happens, we'll keep fighting. Out of love for people and planet.

Day 3: Election Day 🇺🇸
Play an album that's quintessentially American

Spinning this, which took the European art form of Dada and the French school of composing that went from Berlioz to Debussy to Varese, and made it typically American. This album sounds as new and shocking today as it did in 1966.

Bruce Springsteen ‎– Born In The U.S.A. (CBS, 1985 European Pressing)

This seems to fit pretty well. Its not my favourite Springsteen album, but the cover and title alone lends itself perfectly for today's theme.

Haha damnit! I even woke up early because I knew this would be taken quickly. Good game.

Quintessentially American .... Hmm. What quintessentially American music didn't evolve (culturally, mimetically) from music that was already quite sophisticated when it came to America? To my shame I don't have or even know any albums of North American music.

Redbone to the rescue! Let's listen to Wovoka.

Don't know Redbone? Upbeat 70s pop/rock with drivin' riffs and choruses made by a band of four all from North American tribes/nations in the USA. (Correct me if any of those details are wrong.) They would begin stage performances (in front of standard 70s rock and pop audiences!) with some traditional music.

In 1974 on Burt Sugarman's The Midnight Special they did a little bit of that before segueing into what I guess must be today their most famous song, Come and Get Your Love.

Day 3: Election Day

While the Truckers have always told an American story, I think this release marked a big difference in them writing more songs of protest / resistance for current events that has continued on it's more recent releases.
