NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

Beyond being one of my Pens, I like Flower. Bummer that’s how they did him. I mean, business is business and all, but not like he didn’t do some big stuff for Vegas.
I like Fleury as well. He’s my second favorite goalie. I was really bummed when he was left unprotected and I still hold a glimmer of hope that he returns to the Penguins in some fashion. But I know that he really enjoys being out here. Probably doesn’t miss the winters. If true, not informing your most valuable player that he was going to be traded before he found out on Twitter, well that’s not cool. And I know it’s happened to a few other players in that organization.

The Vancouver Canucks signed newly acquired forward Conor Garland to a five-year contract with an average annual value of $4.95 million, the team announced Tuesday.

Garland joined the club as a restricted free agent last week in the blockbuster trade with the Arizona Coyotes that also included defenseman Oliver-Ekman Larsson.

"We're pleased to have reached a long-term deal with Conor today," said general manager Jim Benning. "He's a skilled young player, who plays hard, produces offensively, and will complement our top-six forward group."

Garland had 39 points in 49 games for Arizona last season.

The Canucks have approximately $20 million remaining in cap space after signing Garland and buying out netminder Braden Holtby earlier Tuesday, according to Cap Friendly.

Superstar RFA's Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes still need new contracts and will eat up a significant chunk of Vancouver's financial flexibility.

What is Chicago doing anyway? Feels weird to spend on a goalie like MAF when they’ve got way bigger issues. Maybe there’s something else in play?

Maybe they were the only team that could take on his full contract or at least willing to. The VGK needed to clear cap space to extend Martinez.

I think this is probably pretty true. But still, if you were going to just drop cash (we’re not counting the minor league no name they attached), you’d think you’d be spending it differently. Just feels weird all around.
