@Joe Mac - your birthday is mañana, I believe. do you want a clue from the bag, or do you want to ask 3-5 reasonable questions and I will answer at least 1?
Does the artist wear glasses?

So, the Austin 100 is an NPR compilation of SXSW acts that started in 2009.

Here are the following years articles/lists: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020

As you've worked SXSW between 2011 - 2016, I'd initially be inclined to check those time periods above.

I'd also be reticent to include 2020 as it was cancelled, but a list still exists so, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't know where this all leads, but I am trying to help parse through the literal thousands* of possibilities

*hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds

I just went through alot of 2020 and 2019 groups and went thru their past tour dates. Nothing. Gonna do 2018 and 2017 soon

You say thousands but looking at Austin 2009-2011 and removing singular artists puts us in at around 200 artists. There starts to become a lot of overlap so I'm guessing the average contribution each year makes to the pool is around 50 artists putting us well below a thousand.

Thank you for your contribution, I've taken your notes into consideration and amended my post as such.

To be really specific I landed on 713 which it is most assuredly less.

The clue about it being a group is kinda open for interpretation. Like, say Durand Jones and the Indications. I included them but they feel like they could be eliminated. Lots of stuff like that.

Also, probably a bunch of stuff in there where it's a single artist by a moniker that I didn't recognize. For example, I know Toro Y Moi is a single artist but if I had never heard of him then I'd have left him on the list in ignorance. I'm guessing it's under 500 if we strictly interpret that clue against the Austin 500.

I also omitted 2020.

If we cut the all male groups it's likely under 200. At any rate, cross referencing that against the festival lineups would be time consuming but very likely take the list down to around 100 artists that could easily start to get culled by some more clues. Feels like enough for today, though.

Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy. They're on the list but feel like they are probably single artists and thus should be eliminated. Lot of those too.

So I have a selection of questions, decide if any are worthy. All but one seem reasonable.
  1. How many members are in the group?
  2. What style of music do they play?
  3. From where to the band hail?
  4. Is the album/artist in the general consciousness of the forum or is their appeal a bit more niche than that?(until you announce of course)
  5. Eric is wrong right? Please tell me Eric is wrong!
  6. What is the album?

inb4 she only answers question 5 and we don't know nearly as much as we could
