DAY 15 - AN ALBUM THAT MAKES YOU LAUGH
Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone
Neil Cicierega, known to the music world as his one-man-band Lemon Demon, has been a leading force in internet culture since the early 2000s. If things like "Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny", "BRODYQUEST" or Potter Puppet Pals ring a bell at all, you've got Cicierega to thank. His brand of very surreal, sometimes nerdy humor was practically made for the internet age. This was his big comeback album under the LD moniker and easily one of his best. While his earlier stuff can be pretty amateurish, this album sounds great, with a lot of fun production and catchy hooks. Cicierega's humor is probably an acquired taste, it can be very eccentric and the topics on this album range from bringing a dead pop star back to life, the story of a man who is transformed into a bloodthirsty arcade machine, a candy cadaver and Reaganomics. I could have also used this album for day 2 because there's also a fairly spooky undertone to a lot of the album's lyricism, with a lot of references to the supernatural, death, aliens and other assorted creepy things.

Day 15: An album that makes you laugh

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard "Flying microtonal banana"

This is a record that gets me high just from listening to it. The rhythms are so good that when I try dancing/ moving to it, I get into a happy trance and such a good mood I start laughing. 😛😅🤣 Also their band name always makes me smile.

Day 15 - laugh

Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs

I was genuinely wondering what to play today when I put the new Magnetic Fields album on while we ate breakfast. There was v nearly literal spitting out of cornflakes when the second song came on (I hadn't checked the track listing): "The Biggest Tits in History". And after a mixture of guffaws and stern looks, I knew I had my spin for today. One of my favourite albums, laughter or not...

DAY 14 - M FOR MATURE

Should have posted this last night...

THIS is the front cover.
The back cover is his band around his casket at his funeral.
This is one of the ONLY examples I can think of where an indie label put a warning on the cover.
While this album doesn’t have some of my favorite GG songs (“Look Into My Eyes and Hate Me,” “Bite It You Scum”), it does have such gems as “I Kill Everything I Fuck” and “Shove That Warrant Up Your Ass.”

Album that makes me laugh

Story time. I was at the Mandalay Bay casino in Las Vegas. My wife was asleep and I was at the Black Jack tables for a few hours and was comped tickets to a show . The table dealer said check them out they’re really good so I said sure why not.

I walk in and the crowd is dressed like they just walked out from the sunset strip, Big hair spandex pants , people doing blow off of bar stools , the other half like myself weren’t really sure what we were in for and just out for a fun show.
They came on and the could actually shred, but the lyrics were some of the filthiest ,profane, rude and hilarious at the same time. One older Mexican lady actually covered her ears and ran out yelling Dios Mio They put on an insanely fun show , goofing with the crowd, playing incredibly catchy hooks while the audience sang along . These guys are not for the easily offended for sure but I think they’re hilarious.

Day 15 - An album that makes you laugh

Caroline Rose - Loner

The content on this album doesn't necessarily make me laugh, but every time I pull this one out and see the note she wrote when signing it and think back to the conversation we had with her after the show I can't help but laugh. The album cover is pretty funny too.

Edit: It says "Thank you for helping us live" haha

Day 15: An album that makes you laugh

It's not the album that makes me laugh, but the issues I had surrounding the shipping.

If you haven't followed me on this journey over in the Spinnin' thread, the first box Burning Shed sent out in October was lost (no tracking). The 2nd (with tracking) was stuck in a loop between Portland and Washington DC for weeks before returning to the UK. Burning Shed repackaged this and sent it back. It also was sent on a loop, but eventually found it's way to my house.

To where I discovered it wasn't the new cuts that they had marketed, but represses I already had. I got a refund.

Then, in APRIL - 6 months later - the original package arrives. (see pics in the quote below - it includes one of USPS's attempt at repackaging it because the original box had disintegrated)

An Update....I finally received the original package that was shipped out from England in October. It must have been so beat up that the USPS put it in a new Priority box, taped the shipping label to it, and then plastic wrapped the whole thing together. The records sleeves are trashed with bent corners and seam splits so bad the record is coming out.

I'm actually surprised they aren't worse for traveling around the country for 6 months.

So I have 2 copies of these LP's and the Blu Ray. All are more beat up than I would like....but I got a refund on them, so it's not a total loss.

I suspect the bar code seen on the packing slip in the last image was the problem - it is the Order # from Burning Shed. A 6-digit number where the first 5 happen to be a zip code for Washington DC.

This is from that package from April.

At least this is really only paper dust...and there is no damage on the record.

Great pick...the video for Soul #5 that ends with her dancing in the wind on the beach still makes me laugh.

Day 15: An album that makes you laugh
The Divine Comedy - Office Politics (2019)

IMG_20200515_103001589.jpg

I was going to go with setting different, but suddenly I remembered this album is actually very funny.
It contains "Philip and Steve's furniture removal company", a song about Philip Glass and Steve Reich working in a furniture removal company. It makes me laugh EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. because it's so bananas and so smart. You should listen to it:

Day 12 (Catch Up): FOMO album
Mort Garson’s Plantasia

This album was on my wantlist for ages as soon as I had first heard it. When the re-release was announced I was so amped and couldn’t hit preorder fast enough. Then another variant was announced, then another, then about 10 more. I still really like it but don’t spin it nearly enough as I thought I would.

Day 15: An album that makes you laugh

So having misjudged the room yesterday and being confronted by all your posts of filth and profanities...I thought I’d combine something that makes me laugh and also could be a response to yesterday’s “im(mature) filth fest”

The Beastie Boys ”Licensed to Ill” 1986 U.K. original

Any album that samples Led Zep and Sabbath on the same opening track and then disses Jimmy Page on the next before sampling Zep again deserves respect ..and these rhymes are timeless etc

Fight for your rights...
