Alright, so probably not best album of 2020 but definitely the best Manson in 20 years.
Relevant here because the last track Broken Needle has a locking inner groove.

I haven't been around much because I got a puppy at the beginning of August, am in the process of beating Last of Us 2 and the NBA started back up (and my Nuggets are still fighting) so I haven't been listening to as much music.

But I just wanted to swing through and say:

A) Kelly Lee Owens new album kicks ass.

B) In a twist fitting of 2020, Marilyn Manson's new album is pretty damned acclaimed. And as somebody who adored him in high school but has found his album's post-Holywood to be mostly stale... I can't stop listening to it. Can't believe it but it's probably gonna be in my top 10 for the year:

has he said anything about evan rachel wood's deposition?

Because I have rarely followed Manson’s music as an adult (other than when Pale Emperor dropped to positive buzz in 2015), this is the first I’ve head of this.

I’ll probably refrain from buying the vinyl because of it. Same time, it doesn’t surprise me because everyone knows he has serious issues with a) depression and b) substance abuse. It’s public knowledge that the main reason the band went downhill after the early 00’s is because Brian was a vicious alcoholic / cokehead / control freak who alienated all the other band members until they left one by one.

Reznor has a famous quote about Manson and his substance abuse issues that goes along the lines of “he used to always be the sharpest blade in the room, but now he’s dull, rusty and bitter”.

Personally, I’m somebody that tries to separate the artist from the music. In part because so many of my favorite musicians as a teenager have wound up being addicts, womanizing assholes or egomaniacal jackasses (whether that be Issac Brock, Jack White, every member of Led Zeppelin, the Stones, Billy Corgan, Frank Black, Dr Dre, The Fugees, Elliot Smith, Kurt Cobain or apparently Manson).

And so since “We Are Chaos” sits alongside RTJ IV and Pass the Bolt Cutters as prefect soundtracks for the mood of 2020, I’m gonna pretend you didn’t say anything.

Just listening to the new Fleet Foxes album and it's pretty nice. Their vocals just don't sound as good without Josh Tillman in the band though. They'll always have that missing ingredient now unfortunately. He writes better songs than Pecknold too.
He only recorded with them for Helplessness Blues, right?
