they never really went on with it, did they?

dug that album big time, and the live show when they toured oztraya was a blast

Hope of the States?

Their lead guitarist, who was hugely responsible for the signature guitar sound on their first album, committed suicide only a few weeks before their debut was released. I know they made a second, very good but not quite as good, album but I don’t think that they ever fully recovered from that.

There’s a LOT from ‘04 that I haven’t listened to, and so little that I actually have that I was only able to conjure up a top 7.
  1. Madvillain - Madvillainy
  2. Green Day - American Idiot
  3. MF DOOM - MM FOOD
  4. Prince - Musicology
  5. Kanye West - The College Dropout
  6. Feist - Let It Die
  7. Usher - Confessions
...and here‘s a Spotify playlist of the top 100 songs of that year according to Billboard. A great list if you like crunk & R&B (which I do)!

100% you would really dig Teedra Moses’ album “Complex Simplicity”! My favourite R&B album from 2004 and one of the best R&B albums of the decade! The production on that album from Paul Poli is incredible! Teedra Moses’ is a bit like a poet as well lyrically. I can just imagine you really liking Complex Simplicity! Check it out :)

Hmm, I put it on mine because discogs has it as released in 2004 but Wikipedia says 2005

Since there are 2 promo CD releases that came out in 2004, it makes the master a 2004 release - it's a known bug that they don't seem to want to fix.

I hated Good News For People Who Love Bad News back in 2004, mainly because it's a subpar Modest Mouse album. Its grown on me over the years, but I still feel some kind of way about it.
I agree that it's a definite step down from their run before that (which is pretty flawless imo). I haven't listened to the whole thing in a long time but I still love Ocean Breathes Salty.

This is a super strong year in my opinion and I could have made this 20 deep easily, but then again most of the first half of that decade I could say the same for...

1. Arcade Fire - Funeral
2. Madvillian - Madvillainy
3. The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free
4. Kanye West - The College Dropout
5. Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
6. Drive-By Truckers - The Dirty South
7. Wilco - A Ghost Is Born
8. The Libertines - The Libertines
9. The Futureheads - The Futureheads
10. A.C. Newman - The Slow Wonder
