Cancel culture doesn’t exist. It’s all about self awareness. Enjoy what ever you’re going to enjoy but decide to yourself whether you want to give that enjoyment a stage that promotes the arseholes work. Also accept that other people are going to do the opposite and blacklist and that it’s their prerogative too.
So for example I still listen to MJ, Kanye, and brand new. But got different reasons (mj is just anything before dangerous, Kanye I know he suffers mentally, and I feel like I'm a way Jesse apologized on science fiction fairly well). But I'm some cases I can never forgive people (Chris brown, Tory lanez, lostprophets)
Hell I still listen to some of Xs music even when I hate what he did
I can't say I'm running out of my house to buy up all the Cosby albums at Goodwill and I haven't played Whirr for a long ass time. I happen to like the music Manson released more than those other examples.
Everyone feels a little different about it and I think that should be allowed. For me personally, I still listen to some of my favorites (Brand New, Clapton) but I find myself going down a train of thought I never wanted to when I put them on and it puts the equivalent of a sour taste in my ear. Any enjoyment from the music is almost nullified by this, and then I just get really angry and yeah.... it sucks
I can listen to my old Smiths albums but I am not spending a dime on anything Morrissey does in the present. I may spin an old Manson CD, but again - not going to buy anything at present. A used album wouldn't give him money, either.
@TenderLovingKiller® I agree. It's usually people claiming they are a "victim" of "cancel culture" after they have been shown to have victimized others. Or people claiming others are a victim of it because they can't handle that something/someone they love has performed acts others hate. Like their love can't exist in a space where others hurt.
Oops. @Lord Diaper Baby I stand corrected, Marjorie Taylor Green just said on the House floor that “Cancel Culture is a real thing”. Clearly I am wrong.
