sad, beautiful, tragic: the n&g taylor swift thread

The double / triple album trend for artists who refuse to edit an album is one of my least favorite modern trends (or I guess returning trends) so I hope the hit to miss ratio on this is good...

I for sure think it is. I personally think the second half (“extra tracks”) is stronger, but I’m a big Folklore fan and that’s what those sound like

I don’t think it’s fair to refer to this as a double album. Like if it requires four discs, it’s a quadruaple album. But then we are hobbyists holding onto an archaic format.

Man, I don't like this album. At least Midnights had a few really interesting tracks on it even if I didn't love the album itself - this is the first Swift album I've ever listened to that I've found straight out boring.

You're right based on this, since technically vinyl has become the de facto medium. But millennials grew up as CDs as their primary medium, so I think we still think of it as a double album if it becomes 2 CDs. There's so many "double" vinyl albums now that I think that's just lost its meaning.

Its primary medium is streaming…. So what does that count as it’s either an album or whatever the adjective for 31 is.

I think the term double album ignores the medium nowadays I guess is my point. So by saying double album, you're just saying "this is a really long album"

Is it as long as 69 Love Songs? Well, maybe that's gonna be the new measuring stick.

I've heard that she name drops The Blue Nile in this new album. Is that true? How does it sound/which song is it in? Kinda curious to hear if that's the case

Finished up listen one. "Slog" is the word I'd use, or "Drag". Not gonna ick anyone else's yum but to me it felt like she tried to be Lana and didn't really get there and took two hours to do it. Hope others get more from it.

So I'm trying to understand how this is working. Is the second 'Archive' release completely separate from the release that millions had already pre-ordered? I just assumed it was a surprise to people who received the vinyl and/or download that there would be twice as much music as expected. But hearing this Archive requires a separate purchase? And if so, is there a physical version?

Yes, the Anthology version, which is 31 tracks, was first revealed at 2am today. The Anthology version is currently available via all streaming platforms and via digital download purchase on her site. The "album" itself is the release that was pre-sold (and also available in a 16 track format streaming).
