Definitive Audiophile pressings

I've played through the Craft Brilliant Corners a few times and really like BGs cut.
Still pricy even after the big sale in March.
In comparison to the 70s twofer:

I played the Brilliant Corners title track against the 70s twofer.
It's really good sounding too and I still would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a solid copy at a lower price.

The BG is better on my system. How much is always questionable.
I like Monk's keys, the definition of the bass and the crispness of the cymbals on the Craft a lot more.
Just takes things up a notch or two fidelity wise.

I give more credit to the mastering than the one step but it is really a nice product all the way around.

It’s a really nice pressing. Quite a few of my one steps seem a bit more detailed/defined which I bet is both the mastering and the one step aspect. I’m not sure Bernie alters his approach when doing one steps vs regular lacquer cut but would be interesting to ask him at some point

Yeah I would be just as happy if he cut it for the RTI vinyl used on a TP or OJC. This one may get the OJC release one day, which would be cool for a lot of people. Side two sounds like the tape may be a little weary in spots.

I do slightly prefer Bernie's mastering with the tube console over KG and folded on buying another one step.

I got this record last week and I really must recommend it for any Sarah Vaughan/vocal jazz fans or honestly anyone who just wants to hear an incredible sounding record. I feel like this jumps right in the list of albums to show off my system with. The sound is spooky good and Sarah Vaughan's voice sounds epic, she also gives an incredible performance.

I've only had bad (but limited) experiences in hi-fi shops in NYC. if I knew more about the whole business and could offer repairs, i'd love to open a hi-fi shop. There really aren't any good ones by me and I think there's a pretty big market for it where I am.
Might be a bit of a drive but I’d recommend Hudson Valley Hi Fi. Nice line of brands and good prices vs online. It’s fun to go look.

Yeah I have the copy. Terrible management from ORG.
It does sound really good with a good Mono cart. 45 decision should be shot. It made no sense.

I think KGs stereo cut will leave everyone perfectly content.
Yeah, I'm gonna spin it again in the morning, knowing now it's mono. Also have a Japanese stereo pressing.

Revisited the ORG of Ole again. It sounds pretty damn good to me. The vinyl is dead quiet without any flaws (Pallas). BG/CB in the deadwax, so mix/master is excellent. It sounds very lifelike to me. I like Coltrane centered in the mono mix.

Splitting the title track isn't ideal, but not a deal breaker for me. Used to flipping records midway through a song (looking at you Grateful Dead live shows).

Are you going for the Rhino?

I own this as well — and find the the depth and tone on the bass and overall presentation to be deeply gratifying. I have had two other 33 compares (box set, one older) and neither held up vs the depth of the 45. That said, I’m very excited to hear the Rhino

And sound aside, what a great record. Holy cow.

No, I think I'm gonna pass. I have a clean Japanese stereo pressing. I listened to that one this morning as well, and it's quite good. Though, I think I prefer the ORG. The music sounded more robust, whereas the stereo JP version felt thinner. Likely a result of spacing of musicians due to mono vs. stereo.

I'm sure the Rhino 33 will be phenomenal. Seems like the series has received a lot of praise, though I don't own any of their Hi-Fi releases. Ole is such a great record.

I was just typing my response and noticed that same depth with the 45. It sounds so good.
