  • I just saw a woman at the grocery store, and, bless her heart, she looked eerily like Tony Clifton.
I’m going to be heading to Memphis & Nashville mid-September. Any locals there have some good local favorite food spots I should try and hit?

Went to Nashville a few years back and really enjoyed Oscar’s taco shop. It’s downtown not far from Bridgestone arena

A peaceful trip to Waterloo Records was almost dashed when a dude with terrible BO decided to set up camp right next to me at the new arrivals used bin. It was so bad I had to walk away. Maybe that’s his strategy for vinyl shopping.
New single out today from The Kills. IMO, ‘New York’ is cooler than “LA Hex’, but ‘New York’ would be even better if it was about 60 seconds shorter.

New York is very cool, it's got a cinematic stomp. LA Hex is, holy shit, a rap song!? Not as good but paired with NY its a good portrait of each city

oh, I meant to listen to these
You know how some folks sync up “Dark Side Of The Moon” with the beginning of “The Wizard Of Oz”? Well, just unintentionally synced up my drive through car wash experience with Sparks’ album version of ‘The Number One Song In Heaven’. Highly recommended.

It was a trip when my windshield was getting covered with different colors of soaps during that slower section at the beginning of the album version of the song.
For any old school VMPers out there, what did you do with your copy of “Donuts” with the whooshing sound on the first disc? Still have that copy, or was it sold? Just stumbled across mine. Totally forgot about that whole deal.

I think I might have tosses it honestly. I can’t remember.

It’s in a paper sleeve marked “whooshy” stuck in the outer. I have no idea why.

Yeah, not sure what to do with mine. Guess I’ll just put it back where it was and forget about it again.
    Sparks…tonight!

Think I finally secured the best seat at ACL Live. For me anyway.

That was an absolute blast! Wasn’t really sure what to expect, but, I was particularly impressed with Russel’s vocals. He may have lost a few mph on his fastball, but not many. It’s still an amazing instrument. Blown away that he did ‘The Number One Song In Heaven’ and ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us’ back to back.
Not sure how hot of a take this is, but, for me, the “London Sessions” version of ‘All My Friends’ > the “Sound of Silver” version of ‘All My Friends’.

Yeah, the SOS version isn’t that far off, for sure. It’s still great. I just feel like the London Sessions version has that little New Order-y guitar lick that works better for me. Maybe it is just buried in the mix on the SOS version. Or maybe they just adopted it for the live setting.
I guess this new Janelle Monae album is technically a LP, but half of the tracks are just little interludes. I like the vibe of the material, but, this feels more like an EP release.
It may be a bit premature, but, for me, “Weathervanes” is certainly giving “Southeastern” a run in terms of being Jason Isbell’s best record. Album of the year for me, at least so far, and it will take a pretty special record to change that.

I can get behind this take. It's definitely his best album with the 400 Unit and a top 2 or 3 Isbell record. I think for a variety of personal reasons it would be nigh impossible for anything to knock Southeastern out of the top spot, but objectively I imagine this one could indeed be a contender.

Starbucks Barista acknowledging my vintage Sub-Pop baseball hat from 1993: “Cool hat. Are they still around?” All I could muster was a heavy sigh, and an affirmative nod.
Last weekend I went on a bit of a binge at Waterloo Records. Picked up some classic jazz albums that I’ve been wanting. Trying to start building up that part of my collection. Also grabbed a budget greatest hits from Divinyls on CD. Not sure how I’ve slept on their non-‘I Touch Myself’ material all these years, but there are some great tracks on this collection.
Kind of blown away by this latest Dylan release.

Just really impressed by how good he sounds on this recording. Gonna be super bummed if we learn down the road that this is some kind of AI Dylan shenanigans. Production is fantastic on this, and the relaxed accompaniment suits these arrangements really well.

Did you not watch/hear it when it first aired in the summer of 2021? It's definitely a real band.

@BjorgenFjorgen I was joking a bit there. I was going through a rough period when that originally streamed, so I didn’t catch it.
