Vintage Equipment

Seem pretty good, what do you think? Those are little dust prints at the bottom of the cone, not sure what those tear drop looking things are. Any harm in carefully taking a soft cloth to the cones to clear the dust?

I'm no expert but I'd probably use a microfibre cloth, just avoid the cap in the center of the speakers, they can dent real easily. They look to be in great shape though.

I think it's just glue from the mfg.
Wipe them up lightly and rock out.

Do they show Made in US on the back?

Maybe real wood too?

That’ll be the task for tomorrow. Will report back.
During some very preliminary testing, these sound very good to my ears. I'm playing them through my office system, so via a Marantz 2216 and Wiim Pro + Hitachi Turntable (also tested CD via PS1). The Marantz makes it easy to flip from speaker system 1 (Klipsch RB-61 II) to the JBL, so I can see the differences in real time.

With my untrained ear, it's clear the Klipsch prides itself on the lows, almost to a muddying extent, but the JBL shines in the mids/highs and sounded much crisper to me. I did notice the Klipsch were able to pull forward the buzzing synthesizers more clearly than the JBL during Miike Snow's Black & Blue (there's talk of that track going on in a different thread, so it was on my mind).

My preference actually ended up being neither, but playing the "Both" setting on the Marantz and letting these two sets showcase eachother. When doing that, the JBL highs stood out even more, with the Klipsch taking a back seat, but not begrudgingly, almost complementary. I'd say they're both here to stay.
