Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Nothing about this Joel Ross is worth 33 bucks. Just got it, cheap flimsy gatefold, cheapest paper sleeves you can buy which scratch up every record they have ever contained, and a noisy pressing that is super distracting anytime you get a silent passage, so far the first track on side A seems to be the worst culprit. The music is great, shame about everything else.
I haven't listened to mine yet, but will probably spin it Friday. Let us know if you write in and what VMP has to say. You make a good point that $33 should equal a very nice pressing.

The problem is it's... I don't think I can really claim that it's a messed up pressing. It's just a kinda noisy one. It's not really something I think I can ask for a replacement for. It's most noticeable on the first track for me.. but also I'm listening on a relatively pricey setup with a 2M Black cart which is like... the most unforgiving MM cart out there in terms of displaying EVERYTHING bad about a pressing. So I'm willing to bet most people won't really have a huge issue with it. But the quiet passages for me are way too noisy for what I expect at this price. This is like a Blue Note 75 quality pressing at twice the price.

I'll take the lifetime membership.
Just hook it up to my veins.
And monthly autographed photos of Ryan Reynolds in various compromising positions

Our first pick is Rush with "Roll the Bones". Its a hidden gem in their discography and includes Geddy Lee rapping on the title track.

It will be paired with Aunt Jemima. A modern twist on an old style recipe. Mass produced like most billboard top 40 hits, Aunt Jemima will make you wonder "Why did I sign up for Record/Syrup/Ryan Reynolds club

Finally our picture this month will be the following.

Lool at him, from a defensive stand point he is totally compromised!

Next month guess which Tragically Hip album will we pick. Hint, its the bad one.

I have the standard pressing, which I'm pretty much sure was pressed using the same plates in the same plant, and has the same packaging. I agree, the pressing and sleeve are def not worth +$25. I'm not THAT upset because the music is fire, and TBH the mastering sounds very good, but both discs are warped, and I did find a couple of noisy passages. If I had paid the premium price VMP charged for their variant, I would def be upset tho.
I wouldn't say it is BN75 quality, but I still don't get how Blue Note presses such a loussy record when they're doing wonderful things with their reissue campaigns.

For the record I just wrote them a letter, it is as follows...

I just wanted to write a quick note about this Joel Ross Exclusive pressing from BlueNote that you guys put out this month. The music is great but this is a really disappointing pressing and package considering the price. This is a noisy record, every quiet passage is just covered in background noise and fuzz, and it's covered in pops and clicks likely from the super cheap paper sleeves that it was shipped with because they're basically sandpaper on any vinyl they touch. With the high quality pressings that VMP puts out every month in the classics subscription it's really disappointing to pay $33 USD for a Bluenote album and have it arrive with the cheapest gatefold and paper inner sleeves possible and to have the actual pressing of the album be so bad. This is worse than any of my Bluenote 75 pressings, and they are RENOWN for how bad they are but at least they only cost about 18 dollars each brand new.

I don't know that's there's specifically anything wrong with my copy that isn't the same on all the rest of them but if VMP is trying to make a name for itself when it comes to high quality audiophile quality releases these types of pressings shouldn't happen or at the very least they should be about 10 dollars cheaper. I don't usually say this when it comes to VMP but I feel like I got ripped off on this one.

-I'm sure they'll just offer me another which will sound exactly the same but I just think they need to hear this stuff sometimes...

Hold the fucking phone, there's another Winnipegger in this group!?!?!
We likely know each other through 18 separate mutual acquaintances

A TRAGICALLY HIP CENTRIC/RELATED SUB!?!???? I'm IN!

RIP Gord

edit: They just announced a new Hip channel on SirusXM btw. Starts the 27th
People still get SirusXM?
Also, Day For Night is getting reissued on silver vinyl and half speed mastered black vinyl. It's on sale on Amazon for dirt cheap (at least on the Canada site). Highly recommend picking this up. All the latest Tragically Hip pressings have been very nice

So, I've got a mid-60's Zenith console as my primary player. The turntable being buried in the console masks any warps, and any pops/crackles (outside of really bad ones) are typically masked by the vintage charm of the large furniture piece. I've loved the romantic/nostalgic element of it over the years....

Well, last night I finally upgraded to a much nicer 2nd system (Fluance RT-85...this was the delay, Elacs, NAD, Vincent PHO)...and holy hell...I now understand every post over the last couple of years about a pop/crackle/warp/bad pressing. I previously just chalked it up to luck and a vinyl-friendly mail-carrier.

I've entered a new sonic space and it's pretty amazing (sans the pops).

This probably doesn't below here...but Mather's post highlighted this for me. Carry on...nothing to see here.
