PopTarts Unite!

@Teeeee - With Taylor Swift’s “Lover”, all I can say is WOW! What an incredible track! I love the breathy, airy vocals and the lush booming snares. It really gives it that Vampire Weekend - Step, fairytale-harp, old-school dreamy vibe. The subtle folk guitar in the background gives another layer of retro and the paino has a uplifting but delicate ballerina vibe. It’s a romantic, baroque-pop song that has an uncannily 60’s/Nicole Atkins feel! I love that track teeeee!

Didn’t like any of the other singles from the upcoming album though and I’m not a Taylor Swift fan but she absolutely came through with Lover! Thanks for the tag! ♥️

Also if we're paging all T-Swizzle fans, we gotta get @EmeryRK in here

I’m digging “Lover” but I’m really interested to see the writing credits. The playing of the rhythm section sounds super familiar. Like super similar to another song. I’m trying to place it, but just not quite able to. 🤔

I hear it too and it's driving me crazy. Please let me know if you figure it out.

It’s something from either the 80s or 90s. My first thought is it reminds me of Mazzy Star. Definitely brings me back to my 90s goth kid days. That’s for sure.

I thinks that’s what it is. It’s Mazzy Star. Replace the Hope’s tambourine with a snare and it’s any one of half the songs on So Tonight That I Might See.

hearing a few things. verses have lilts that remind me of CSNY's Helpless, and definitely some Mazzy Star vibes with the opening strums sounding like Fade Into You. or some Cowboy Junkies with Sheryl Crow vocals.

I dunno 🤷‍♀️ but I like it.

Yeah, i think kelly Clarkson suggested this. A lot of work ahead!
It's just a really bizarre idea to me! I know bands like Streetlight Manifesto have re-recorded old albums but never heard of re-recording an entire *catalogue*. It could be really interesting, do you think she'll update it or try to just replicate the original recordings?

I have no idea actually. I feel like there are a ton of questions. Same artwork? Same band? Are the fans supposed to buy a whole new but same album? How long will this take and what does it mean for the lover tour? Is the $ it takes to do this really worth it? I get it. Scooter effed her. But is it best to just walk away with your head held high on this one? I don't know. It's a gross situation.

JoJo’s first two albums were re-recorded too, not the first time something like this has happened. I imagine it’ll only be used to replace the current ones available on Spotify but this is Taylor we’re speaking of, so it’ll probably be made into a big event when it eventually releases.

I doubt it’ll affect much in terms of touring and to be fair I think she knows the Reputation tour is still fairly fresh in people’s minds and won’t want to do another worldwide tour so soon for risk of overexposure. After Lover is out I reckon she’ll have plenty of time to re-record all her past work.

Ranking the Britney Spears’ albums that I care about from best to worst

1. Blackout = 9.6/10
2. In The Zone = 7.7/10
3. Oops!... I Did It Again! = 7.5/10
4. Circus = 7.4/10

I think Circus is a consistent album, but most of the songs are around a 6.5/10-7.5/10. Circus’ is Britney Spears’ only album where I feel the second half of the album, is stronger than the first half! Both Oops!... I Did It Again! and In The Zone start off very strongly and even have amazing tracks halfway through the album too, but both fall a bit flat in the last 3-4 songs of the album (both albums have a standout ballad towards the end, but the other few tracks are filler/bland). Blackout is easily Britney Spears’ best album. It really brings the inner slut out of you and if there’s one word I could describe the album, it would be “addictive”!!!

I’m so jealous of you @wynn72 ! I really want the Urban Outfitters exclusive for Oops!... I Did It Again! I’m so jealous of you!!! I even want the exclusive for Britney because I love the two The Neptunes’ produced tracks and the last track, which Justin Timberlake wrote/produced. Both those Urban Outfitters exclusive variants look amazing too! 🔥💎😩😜

Yeah I love that Oops exclusive. Maybe they'll repress it again like BOMT (but in a different color) considering the demand!

My personal ranking (which slightly changes every listen through of her discography)

1. Blackout (obviously)
2. Circus
3. Femme Fatale
4. Britney
5. Glory
6. In the Zone
7. Oops
8. Baby One More Time
9. Britney Jean

But again, I love them all.

Which albums change in rankings? I think Circus, Oops!... I Did It Again! & In The Zone would all change rankings for me because they’re all so close in ratings. I think I was a bit harsh on Circus because I can’t help compare tracks like “Mannequin”, which sounds like a cheaper, less raunchier and sexier version of “Toy Soldier” and I think “Shattered Glass”, and “Circus” both sound outdated and formulaic, even though they are both still enjoyable.

Also, the two ballads (Out From Under and My Baby) are just feel sweet-icky. ‘put on’ and are ultimately forgettable - they don’t bring anything to the album or concept and are musically weak. If You Seek Amy is a bit too silly and her nasal delivery in the chorus with that whole “love me, hate me, can’t you see what I see” irritating and emotionless. It’s like....yeah, it’s a cool idea with the whole F-U-C-K me thing but after you hear it, it gets old quickly. The clown-stomping beat mixed with Britney’s delivery overall makes the song feel a bit too captain obvious.

Kill The Lights is theatrical, musical and really showcases Britney’s fierce, dark attitude. Womaniser is a laser sharp, sexy, funny banger and Lace & Leather is a burlesque, 70’s funky porno sleek jam which has an amazing Prince-inspired breakdown in the last half of the song. Blur really hits the nail on the head too with it’s afterglow, hangover aesthetic - the guitars, subdued dreary drums, introspective/question mark sounding synths and Britney’s naked vocals really make the encapsulate this blurry, lost aesthetic Britney is having.

There are highlights on Circus, and the songs I critisize, I’d still award them a 6/10 or a 6.5/10 which means they are decent. But the best tracks on Circus aren’t better than the best tracks on In The Zone and Oops!... I Did It Again - even though them two albums are less consistent. Both albums in my opinion have 3 songs each that are better than the best track on Circus (Womanizer/Kill The Lights).

But yeah, I still really like them three albums and they all are a 7.5-8.0 / 10 for me!

The album Britney, has too much outdated tracks on there for me. That second half is pretty boring with only “What It’s Like To Be Me” standing out (a brilliant ending to the album). That ending is like how Michael Jackson ended his album “Bad”, with “Leave Me Alone”. That’s how amazing that closer is on Britney! Cannot stand the childish “I’m Not a Girl, Yet Not a Woman”, and Overprotected sounds a bit outdated, even though it followed in the same vain as “Stronger” and “You Drive Me Crazy” - both tracks still sound great! Anticipated is a cute, disco-like track but Britney doesn’t own It like she does with promiscuous, sweaty, begging-like “I’m A Slave 4 U” and “Boys”! I’d award Britney a 5.3/10. It’s an average album with too much filler due to many tracks sounding outdated.

3 - 6 change places relatively frequently for me.

I absolutely love Circus and it honestly comes close to Blackout for me (but not close enough to ever have a chance to usurp it for the top spot). I love pretty much every track on it, If you seek Amy is silly but is still one of my all time favorites.

Femme Fatale is full of bangers. It's a bit less personal than her other albums and blended with alot of other similar Dance-Pop albums since it's release but I still think it's one of the best in that category.

Britney is by far my favorite of the Pre-Blackout era and the only one that I think really stands up to her later albums in terms of re-listening and the non-singles holding up. Cinderella I still think is a missed single opportunity, and is a top 5 Britney track for me.

Glory I think is incredible and sometimes gets overshadowed because it doesnt have as much of a fun dancy vibe and doesnt have as much nostalgia as the others because its so new. It's such a bounce back from Britney Jean and more grown up album. If it's any indication of what we are going to continue to get from her going forward, I'm on board.

In the Zone I do love but don't rank as high as most Britney fans. Hot take, I honestly think the second half of the Album is alot stronger than the first half with the exception of Breathe on Me and Toxic. Me against the Music is fine but her weakest leadoff single.

Overall though, I love it all though (except for anything that Will.I.Am is involved in, even Britney can't save a song with that guy).
