Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Yea I have been having a look at audiogon and hifishark. The ex-m1+ prices have been nowhere near this deal on the ex-m1. I need to consider how much I will use headphones longterm to listen to vinyl on this rig but a $1300-1500 is substantial.

Maybe, and I hate saying this because I love the lolz, getting kinki might not be right for you?

I’ve been really interested in Audio GD recently, I’m really tempted by one of their pre amps (R27-RE), and all the reviews of their stuff is really good. They have a master 9p integrated speaker and headphone amplifier. It looks like it’s about €2000 new in Europe. It isn’t listed on Underwood HiFi, US distributors, website but I bet you could ask them.

Don’t Kinki shame me!! 🤣

I think just need to give a think about how often I’ll use headphones for vinyl on my main rig past this year.

Not at all. I like them. Just that there are definitely other options even within the new breed of Chinese “budget hi end” manufacturers. I suppose it’s more pick the amp/company that suits your needs rather than just trying to shoehorn something you might have designs on into doing things it’s maybe not designed to take account of.

yea--i think the Kinki did fit my needs until i stopped being able to really listen to vinyl at night in my living room! I’ll wait a little and see how much I continue to use headphones in my living room once the bathys come in

Oh yeah I agree but I think when the situation changes it’s sometimes worth starting to question things and decide if it still does as nice as those kinki pieces look.

Buy a decent preamplifier for source switching. They don’t have to cost much.
While this is a functional solution, I would only consider it based your cable situation.

If you’re heavily invested in higher end interconnects, no sense in breaking that signal along the way for a switcher that is not of the same quality. But if you’re using more normal level of cables, as long as the switcher has quality parts and decent shielding, this could be a great solution.

in the back of my mind, i don't know how long i'll be using headphones for on my main rig...so it seems like a nice thing to have the option for, but probably not absolutely needed long-term. also the used price is quite good so that is factoring into it. i think i could get it for $1,500 shipped which is about $1,000 less than list price.

Hahahaha! You’ll need headphones more as the kid grows up and moans about your damn boring dad music ruining their Xbox or tv time 😂

You might then get them back interested, or at least tolerant, sometime in their 20s

Damn you’re getting a great price.

How about you send me $500 and the EX-M1 when you receive it and I’ll send you my EX-M1 free of charge?

That’d be a hell of a compromise. Two volume pots in a row and the signal always going through the components of the weakest component first.
i could easily switch cables if needed too as the cables are accessible. we'll see how much i end up using the headphones for vinyl listening downstairs. a buddy offered to lend me one of his headphone amps too if i wanted to give that a shot.
