The February 2024 Record Challenge Thread - Silver Screen Edition Part Deux

Dazed and Confused
Cynthia: I call it the "every other decade" theory. The 50's were boring. The 60's rocked. The 70's, my god, they obviously suck. So maybe the 80s will be like, radical. I figure we'll be in our 20's and hey, it can't get any worse.

Maybe not a great movie, but super watchable.

Play something from whatever your favorite decade of the four mentioned is.

Probably the band I listened to the most in the 80's.

Oingo Boingo ~ Boingo Alive: Celebration of a Decade (1979-1988)

National Lampoon's Vacation
Clark Griswald: I think you're all fucked in the head. We're ten hours from the fuckin' fun park and you want to bail out! Well I'll tell you something, this is no longer a vacation. It's a quest. It's a quest for fun! I'm gonna have fun, and you're gonna have fun. We're all gonna have so much fuckin' fun we'll need plastic surgery to remove our goddamn smiles! You'll be whistling 'Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah' out of your assholes! Hahaha. I gotta be crazy, I'm on a pilgrimage to see a moose! Praise Marty Moose! Holy shit!

The Mountain Goats "Bleed Out"
(2022 merge)
Plays out like a detective themed rock opera and it's catchy and fun as hell. How can you not smile after singing along to choruses like "I'm coming to swat you down like flies 'cause I've got guys on every corner" and "we're gonna need more bandages!" Again, shout out to @Hemotep for pointing me out in the direction of this album during my vinyl spin challenge last September.

I really love this one. It's up there with their best imo.

I guess I'll go with the 70s.

I wasn't around for any of them, but there are a lot things about the 70s that I love. Here's one of 'em.

The Simpsons Movie
Bart: Ohhh, this is the worst day of my life.
Homer: The worst day of your life so far

Sonny Rollins – Nucleus

This, on the other hand, is one of the things I don't love about the 70s. It's pretty cheese. Well-played cheese, but cheese nevertheless.

David Bowie "Never Let Me Down"
(1987 EMI; 2018 reissue from Loving The Alien set).
The worst Bowie album? I think so. @jamieanderson1968 Curious what you think is his worse studio record?

Yup. Though I still like Time Will Crawl.

Play the worst release by a favorite artist

I'll go with In Through the Out Door by Zep.
Largely uninspired at times, they were clearly all going though a lot during the recording of this.
And while it has one of my favorite Bonham beats ever in Fool in the Rain, it also has my all time most disliked Zeppelin song in Hot Dog.

Play anything this movie brings to mind

Probably my favorite album that was release in 1976 (in the US and other countries other than Germany)...

Nektar – Recycled
Bacillus Records/CFE – YD-99010, 1975/1976

Spanish pressing - uses Original German plates and uses rear artwork as the front artwork.

Cut by Christa Brüggemann at SST
