Online Vinyl Deals

Another shipment from Crateism on the way. If each of the two record boxes are being this way (five remaining from my June order), this is hilariously inefficient.
did you get a shipping notice? or just see it in informed delivery?

i emailed them last week about only getting 1 of 4 boxes and haven't gotten any response.

They must be graduates of the VMP School of Logostics. Why use one box when they grow on trees.
VMP pretty much said it actually is CHEAPER for them to send multiple packages to people than it is to actually bundle everything. They get much better prices per unit on shipping more packages than if they were to bundle...Which is wild. Shipping is such a wasteful industry.

Having worked in shipping and logistics before being a librarian I can assure you that is not the case. Where it probably is cheaper for them is when they are drop shipping, thus avoiding their own warehouse and repackaging.

Do VMP subscribers still get their packages delivered by USPS? If so then yes it probably is cheaper by default, from the subsidies that USPS gets.

I get mine via USPS. maybe they were talking about internationally? it seemed like they had negotiated a deal with shipping companies where they got a better price if they hit a certain quota. I'm not entirely sure--i just remember someone asking VMP about the bundled shipping never being bundled and somebody there said annoyingly it makes more financial sense to NOT bundle for some reason.

But I doubt the majority of people do it so they still come out on top money-wise. Can’t think of a ton of shops that will retroactively apply a discount to stuff you recently bought
I know and I get it, but it's poor practice for environmental reasons among other things.

depending on the exact issue, this may be more of a byproduct of the warehousing/inventory management methods being used. often in gigantic warehouse setups (like Saddle Creek) product isn't kept together (think of a record store where everything is alphabetical or by genre). Space is usually available based on product moving in and out, when it's received, etc. and pickers usually keep to a certain area/grid to improve efficiencies. It's completely realistic that for them to bundle a bunch of different shipments/product types (ROTMs, exclusives, Anthologies etc) (while possible, and I think with the free records they're doing, certainly being done) would require a manual process as opposed to a pick ticket system where when orders are placed, they go directly to the distribution team responsible for servicing the area that product lives in.

there are probably also cost efficiencies to be gained, possibly by grouping shipments by region/weight/etc. as I'm guessing they just have their pallets delivered straight to a distribution center because no way USPS is showing up with a truck every day.

Just snagged these two for buy 1 get 1 50% off (3 and 5 left, respectively)

Another cheap one
