No. Not at all. I think she's actually taking a whole lotta shit that she doesn't really deserve.
Personally, Masseducation was the point I started to sour on her. I'm not sure why, but that album never clicked with me and left me feeling cold. Maybe it's the VMP curse? Either way, while I wish SK had never knocked on her door to produce this, I also don't blame her for doing her thing. They wanted some St. Vincent and based on 3 of the 4 singles released, that's exactly what they got. I don't think any SK superfan was clamoring for Annie to tinker with their formula, and while it's not fair, it's really hard to not like her a little less for it.Has this whole thing made anyone a little sour on St. Vincent? because it unfortunately has for me

Agreed, Masseducation is a big change for her sound and she seems to be sticking to that very poppy sound compared to her first 2.5 albums.

But it sounds like S-K, or at least 1/3 or 2/3 of them, wanted to tinker with the formula. So Annie was doing what they asked her to do. She's a fan of the group. I find it hard to believe that she went in there to intentionally cause a rift in any way. We still really don't know what truly happened. It sounds like Janet wasn't there much for these sessions. Maybe it was because they didn't give her much to do. Maybe it was because she had had enough of Carrie wrestling control of the group. Maybe it was because she had this other new job that we just read about. We don't know. But if they all agreed to have St. Vincent produce, and particularly if it is true that Janet suggested it, then I have no real blame for Annie here.
I agree. Like I said, you can't blame Annie Clark for doing her job and adding her stylings to their sound. It would be weird if they recruited her and made another version of No Cities. When you've adored a band for over a decade you become a little irrational though, and any backlash against Annie is coming from that perspective (at least on my end).

I like the songs i’ve Heard. I think this will be a bit like The Idiot was for Iggy Pop. A fundamentally different sound from what went before that you could dismiss as a David Bowie album rather than an Iggy one (in this case a St. Vincent album rather than Sleater-Kinney) but the strength of character from the performer and (hopefully in this new album case) quality of songs allows it to become one of their defining works. Then again i’m A fan of St. Vincent.

I’m not trying to start something here, and admit I haven’t read the articles mentioned above (yet), so I may be missing context; but what exactly is the problem with pointing out that they are aging? I mean I didn’t see this kind of backlash in regards to an article about how the top concert attractions last year were all older men (although that may just be that I wasn’t paying attention). Just wondering how the mix of gender and age becomes problematic.

The article has an air of ‘give a round of applause for the women over 40’ about it. Annie Clark herself is 36 so she better enjoy her last 4 years of quality music making. It’s just phrased poorly.
