Yeah, I thought it was something like Def Jam wouldn't release it cuz they thought it was shit and FO just leaked himself. So I suppose Def Jam would still own it. but it was one of those weird Yankee Hotel Foxtrot type situations.

Nah, I am just old and remember that specific review because it was my intro to Frank and it was the first modern R&B record since D'angelo that didn't feel cheesy AF. I think it also introduced me to tumbr for whatever that is worth.

Agree with some of the posts I'm seeing in here. Honestly the phrase "modern classic" itself is a complete oxymoron. I don't think something can be called a classic until at least a decade has passed and we can really see how relevant it still is and how much it has held up.

The only exception is for Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly. That album is a stone cold classic even though it was released this decade!

Classic for me is a timeless album thats widely accepted as amazing. Or atleast strongly tipped to be a timeless work of art/brilliance.
And normally rare.
And TBH none of the deff jam fit it perfectly. Close is big boi/vince and pusha.
No summertime 06 puts vince at the back of the line.

He said its VMPs M.O. to do the album before the album that was huge

Amazing record but I really wonder whether it needed a 45rpm remaster. Has anyone A/B'd it to an original?
