Okay, how do I use the flying constructs?

I have only ever been able to use the one by the second shrine that glides off the platform when you break the icicle. Any I setup I just end up wasting because they are glued to the ground. I can't get them to move even with a fan. I can move them with the hand option, or drop them off the edge of the cliffs. But I can't figure out how to set one up and glide on it. I'm assuming I need to o to be able to get to the third shrine. So far I have been going in circles for hours and can't figure out how to get over there.
I really disliked this part, and luckily I dropped it on the rails only to watch it finally start sliding down on its own to finally figure it out..

(edit)
oh, my bad - I didn't really read your whole post. you got it flying but are having trouble controlling it to the shrine you're looking to get to?

I just had that initial gliding experience last night and it was thrilling. I haven’t tried it yet, but I wonder what would happen if you attach a fan under the glider for elevation. I guess this is what’s so exciting about this game, all the possibilities!
The glider will remain grounded without a runway to launch from. It reminds me of a paper airplane and needs something underneath to guide it. Later you find handlebar/controls which kinda make it a little easier to takeoff from the ground. A rocket helps with fans to get it going also, just make sure an edge is close.

Progress update: killed my first story related boss and completed its related temple. Much more improved experience than BotW and the fight was much more grandiose. Link isn’t very well upgraded but cleared it on first attempt. I can see where reviews were praising the improved story.

I don’t have rockets yet, but can’t wait to see what else pops up in this game. I’m currently about to enter the Temple of Time, just need to wait until my son gets out of school so we can go in together.

I still haven't come across the handle controller yet... but that first temple was fun and I love having the assist it gives you, gliding around with it is so much better

Wow I’m several pages late to the weapon degradation chat, but I just want to put in my two cents:

I’m an rpg item hoarder: if it seems limited or hard to obtain I just hang onto it. I just figure I need to save healing items for real tough fights, or don’t want to waste resources I’d have to farm later. Some games reward this, but not a ton. Usually I end up with full pockets, weight management issues, and so on.

The weapons degradation aspect of BotW (havent booted up TotK yet) led me to hoarding and horse trading; I’d be constantly comparing drops with my full inventory of breakable swords, often finding nothing worth picking up. Victories didn’t feel rewarding, and once the weapon quality plateaued I lost a sense of progression.

It’s definitely more a me-problem but the mechanic led to a glut of resources, not a scarcity.
I wanted to come back to this comment and say the fuse ability in TotK reduces this issue immensely. Instead of having too many weapons, I'm just fusing them together. It's like I can't find enough items now, in a good way.

yeah, the amount of times I fused a sword to another sword laying around just because I didn't want to leave it behind. that said, I'll leave certain weapons unfused if I can to try to fuse a specific item to it that I don't have at the time, like a Talus Heart

I've never really had any great desire to play any Zelda games but I gotta say, fuse has peaked my interest. Creating unholy abominations by fusing anything to anything is very high on Mathers "things I enjoy" list.

I finally found my way back to the second shrine, got the fuse ability and am now headed to the temple of time. There’s a kid in one of the classes at my work who has talked a lot about the game cause he’s been watching his mom play it. It’s all this stuff I haven’t even begun to come across yet. And I don’t even have kids!

I've been playing organically and don't really want to spoil myself so just curious if anyone knows. But, is the world of Hyrule below the clouds as big as it was in BOTW? I knew there was going to be an upstairs/downstairs dynamic but I didn't know the downstairs was going to be that involved in the gameplay. I made it to Rito Village already and there were some slight changes in the map on the path there but I wasn't expecting it to take as long as it did. I thought it would be a bite-sized version of Hyrule in TOTK. Absolutely insane how big this game is along with the added caves under Hyrule too 🤯

Reminds me of my first playthrough theough Elden Ring. Just overwhelmingly huge.

I'm enjoying the game, but it's hard as fuck. I've died more in my first 5 hrs of play than probably my first 20hrs in BotW.

I think the main map is mostly the same (plus/minus cosmetic changes from time) as BotW. I believe the underground is the same size as the main map and the sky portion is overall smaller than the other two layers

I don't remember being overwhelmed but Elden Ring, but to be fair, that map is mostly chunked with different areas that you don't get to until while into the game. So because of that you can take it piece by piece with each region. In TOTK I'm just running by things that I'd normally stop to engage with, but I want to find a nearby shrine so I can come back to later. It's overwhelming how much there is going on in Hyrule.

I miss the bombs, they were a crutch because I'd use them to take on multiple enemies or try different things more strategically from afar. I've died maybe 5 times already, mostly just rushing and not thinking how I'm going to defeat things or accidentally falling before I got the glider.

That's crazy this'll easily be like a 200+ hour game 😱

It's the exact same map at the same scale, just altered by world events.

Let us know when you visit the Depths. :)
