Oh hell yeah, BC Camplight! Shortly After Takeoff was one of my favorite albums of 2020. Can't wait for this new one.

I really like the new Durand Jones solo album. a lot. The recording is hot shit though. It's not the vinyl, it's the mix, it's all super distorted on digital. I want to know if it was a conscious choice or if someone fucked up. Like if it were produced better, It would be a serious AOTY contender for me.

They did a story about it on NPR and it sounds like that was what they were going for.

They said something along the lines that one of the tales sounds so raw and energetic that decided to keep it even though the mics weren’t set up right rendering the whole thing fuzzy and distorted.

Right, but the whole thing was recorded live and while I don’t think it was necessarily intentional, it sounds like the sun par recordings were tolerated for the sake of rawness/energy.

I haven’t heard the album outside of what they played on NPR so maybe they just did a shitty job but in the interview they paint a different picture.

I seriously thought I’d blown a speaker or something when I first played it.
