What's Spinning

Have to get in one jazz spin before work.
Happy Sunday all! ✌️

The first of only 2 records I picked up on my trip to Illinois - usually I come back with 10 or more. I didn't get to do my normal full digging as it was hot, the stores didn't have the best AC (or any at all) and my family was usually waiting in the car. Some stores just didn't have anything worth buying.

This one I've been eyeing to get - I liked the movie (Lee Ving is the bad guy and kills Flea near the beginning of the movie), and the music is pretty good (metal and punk). I haven't watched the movie in a while, so I really don't know if it holds up.

This was still sealed and does have a slight warp - very playable but I'll be putting it through the vinyl flat for a little bit for the next spin.

Various ‎– Dudes (The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album)
MCA Records ‎– MCA-6212, 1987

Jane's Addiction's "Mountain Song" is an early 1986 recording - not the version on Nothing's Shocking.

Pressed at MCA, Pinckneyville

Bill Evans Trio featuring Scott La Faro - Sunday At The Village Vanguard (Riverside, 1961 Original UK Mono pressing)

This is just a breathtakingly good album. All 3 members brought their A-game to this recording and it really shows in the music. LaFaro unfortunately died in a car crash 10 days after this was recorded, and therefore this marks the last time to trio played together.

Not sure if anyone here is interested, but I just made an Instagram account where I plan on adding photos of records, little extras I might find online, and notes etc. I really enjoy reading up on the history behind albums so this is a chance for me to geek out! Follow here if your interested at Selaws.Spins

Man, Id highly recommend making the trek in the future. Not sure how long, but it would be worth it.

The way people gush over King Gizzard live is exactly how Thee Oh Sees perform. King Gizzard just seemed too rehearsed or stiff or something. Was honestly a little underwhelmed and is why I’m not making the six hour drive again this year.
(I still love them though)

Thee Oh Sees are just non stop energy and long improvised jams. Jon Dwyer is THE rawest musician I’ve ever seen live, and those drummers play at 200%. They were soaked with sweat after the first song.
I need to, if that one was on a Saturday or Sunday I would have said that I would make the trek, but Wednesday makes it a lot harder. I'll have to try!

Just spinning side one of the first vinyl in this awesome box. Sounds as good as it looks so far. Going to try and savor this box slowly over the next week or so.

Note: FWIW due to monopolistic pricing here in the USA ($215 w/tax) I was forced to play International Amazon Shipping roulette. Got lucky this time. Arrived well packed and in perfect shape from France. $92 US shipped.

Lou Donaldson ‎– The Natural Soul (1986 Cadre Rouge Audiophile Edition - DMM - reissue)

I was intrigued by this ever since I saw it pop up in the VMP Anthology series. I managed to pick up this DMM pressing for a cheap price and its actually a pretty good pressing.

Miles Davis - On The Corner (Colombia, 1972 Original US Pressing)

I still find it amazing how diverse Miles Davis' discography is. Such a range of music, and I really enjoy this funk phase. This isn't the cleanest pressing but its still good, and the music slaps!

Such a unique title in Miles discography. Not like anything else, I remember he was inspired by a track from Sly’s Fresh album when doing this album . Was going to put this on today as well!
