Thought y’all would dig this:
I got my Blue Note Review playing cards all framed up. Looks pretty sweet, although I kinda wish I’d made a Blue Note logo to go underneath. <Shrug>
Also looking at it, I’m don’t know if these would have been my top 20. There definitely should have been a card for Herbie Hancock and there probably should be a bass player.

Love this, really fantastic! I think I might end up doing the same at some point.
I agree, there seems to be some obvious omissions from the list. Not that it would have been particularly feasible but it would have been brilliant if Blue Note slipped in a card within each of their Classics or TP releases.

The new Nduduzo Makhathini album, In the Spirit of Ntu, which came out today on Blue Note is spectacular. If you like modern Spiritual Jazz with a hint of African rhythms, this is for you. After two back to back listens this morning, it's an Album of the Year contender. Even my highly critical Grade 11/12 Drafting and Design class approves.

I'm really digging it too, but I could do without the singing. Not sure why, but jazz and singing just don't go together really for me. It stopped me totally digging the Brownswood S African compilation too.

Listening to this album reminds me of the first time I heard Graceland, which started me down a path of checking out music from the rest of the world. This eventually lead to me being the World Music Director at my college radio station.

The other thing that hits me in listening to it, is just the thrill of this new music. Like when I first heard Kind of Blue, or Blue Train, or The Epic, or Shabaka and the Ancestors.

Y’all are missing out. Those vocals are a key part of the album. If it want for them and the 6/8 African percussion parts this would sound like any other jazzy album. The quiet strength of the female sing on Mama is a highlight for me. She makes the track.
