Record Store Day 2022

Did anyone find a new artist or album or music that they're digging as a result of the day? I know a lot of this is about collectability or supporting local stores but I always come out of RSD with a handful of new-to-me artists or albums. And yes most of these are very well known by some folks, but that's the beauty of it all

The L'Imperatrice asks got me curious and this is a nice, low-key grooving disco feel. This as well as my next one have been part of my morning soundtrack

The Wallows release was 15k pieces, they're playing sold out venues of thousands of people, so I'm late to this party too but it's a nice mosh of the current day Indie vibes with some older alt rock feelings

I mentioned this third one (Rex Orange County) in another thread and he's been rising pretty recently, but another great vibey album that feels like it could fit in a lot of people's musical wheelhouses

I've been impressed with The Doors L.A.Woman Sessions box. I picked it up at a local where I had more than enough store credit to cover the cost. Glad I did.

It's like a buddy of yours invites you to his garage where he and 5 of his bandmates are noodling around. They can't get completely through a single fucking song without finding some reason to start over, and it sure seems like much of what they're playing is being created on the fly, but damned if they aren't actually pretty good! And this wasn't recorded in a garage, or someone's bedroom, but in the studio with the same full set-up as the final product, so the sound is fantastic. I don't know if Bernie Grundman was involved with the original pressings of L.A. Women (thinking maybe he was?), but he sure as hell nailed this one. The vocals and every instrument are crystal clear and have their own spaces in the mix. And perhaps most odd, I found myself really enjoying this because it's different from, and at times surprising compared to, what those of us who've listened to this record are familiar with. Can't say I'll listen to it a ton, but it's definitely worth a listen.

@Psymon might be interested in reading that!

Did anybody grab that Karen Dalton RSD release? I really like her but wasn't sure how it sounded and couldn't find any samples of the music

Im part of a few vinyl groups on Facebook (literally the only reason I still go on there) and reading the comments about how flippers should be allowed because they "put in the work" is depressing.
i once posted that the groups should institute a policy similar to reddit r/vinylcollectors and not let people sell items that have come out in the past 2 months. people in the group FREAKED OUT haha.

Because they were flippers, too. Record flippers will rally and defend FB groups because it's quickly becoming their final port- SHF banned RSD sales for six months (no one has even sold any since, kind of funny), You'll get downvoted to hell on reddit, eBay has high fees and aggressive return polices, so now it's basically down to Discogs and FB

yep and people on FB groups now insist on friends and family/venmo for payments because of the new 1099 rules and the mods in those groups allow it. i understand paying friends and fam to people you know and I'm more than happy to pay it on here for people that are regular contributors. but i'd never pay it over there to random people flipping records. the whole thing is crazy to me.

Those new 1099 rules are bs, but definitely agree that it's crazy. I'm not about to trust people on Facebook Groups. That's where anti-vax people live, and they're bonkers.

I found this from an article dated a week ago:

"The threshold varies with the owner’s state of residence. For most states, the threshold is $20,000 in gross payment volume from sales of goods or services in a single year, and 200 payments for goods and services in the same year.

For residents of Massachusetts, Maryland, Vermont, and Virginia, the threshold is $600, irrespective of the number of transactions. For Illinois residents, the threshold is $1,000 with three or more transactions"

Anyway, this shit is why Dems never stay in power

I hadn't seen it broken out by state. Thought it was federal, but I agree with your last point, although the selfish jerk in me is glad it won't apply in my state.
