Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I personally think there's added value in his videos šŸ“¹ and whether he is a "reviewer" or just an "enthusiast reporting all things hifi and home theater šŸŽ„ is irrelevant to me as he is simply a source which introduces people to new and cool products/gear āš™ not to mention he opens up the discussion on hifi and AV Tech to help grow the hobby. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Thatā€™s fair enough. I just find thereā€™s enough noise in the world without letting YouTube reviews into it.

To be fair, Andrew did say that other users experience with the Pro would be different than his but itā€™s still going to bother me that he didnā€™t talk about the Decware.

I started watching him with his Vinyl Sucks video and I enjoy his ā€œthe only person that has to like the sound of your system is youā€ tagline. He has other views that I find interesting and probably agree with but I wonā€™t mention them here šŸ˜
My biggest issue with reviews is there is no real good middle ground and what some deem as "affordable" is laughable and I tend to be on the higher end of things. I like Steve for instance, and while I agree with his latest speaker vid, who can do what he says?

It's all just entertainment like Fox News ;)

Agreed. It does appear that what is considered entry level is more than what most people feel comfortable entering with.
Iā€™ve owned 3 pairs of speakers my entire life and Iā€™m ok with that. Iā€™ll leave that Steve talk to the thrill seekers.

I canā€™t do a YouTube channel until I retire ..I canā€™t risk my pension being whipped away for inappropriate language and opinions .....

But when they day comes ....watch out world ..grumpy old man will take on these bullshit influencers .... and get 2 followers ..my mom and wife (maybe)

My Dad has retired ...and seems to spend most of his time emailing complaints to the Daily Mail editor

To be fair to your dad the Daily Fail is an utter cesspit so there is plenty to complain about in thereā€¦

My wifeā€™s friend is looking to upgrade her suitcase player. Her collection is starting to grow. Iā€™ll be talking to her tomorrow and I donā€™t have any budget info, but I do know that she would like speakers built in. I know thatā€™s not possible, but Iā€™m thinking of the basic Orbit with a built in pre amp and powered speakers. Probably the Edifier R1280T. She wonā€™t need anything else will she? Just plug and play.

Does the Orbit tt still have issues with hum when used with powered speakers?

I'm moving my floor standers from a carpeted floor to a vinyl floor, so now I can't use the carpet spikes. Should I just take them off, or get some of those metal feet that go under the floor standers? Seems like there are some inexpensive options, but I don't want to eff up my new floor! I saw $400 ones, but that is going to be a no from me.

I think something like these discs is what your looking for Kris ?

Unfortunately Parts Express only seems to include them with there spike kits. You might check your local hardware store and see if there are some thick washers that might work ?

ELAC F6.2 with the ATMOS speakers stuck on top, so about 50 lbs. I found little pucks on Amazon made out of metal. I might try those! Yeah, @JohnnyCashFan, I think thick washers would be good. They make ones with a little groove for the spike. They're less than $20, so that seems good. I just don't want to waste the money if there is something better but not extravagant.

I use these Conecoasters for my Skylan stands (with spikes) supporting Harbeth speakers. Looks like lots of places sell them, but the $20-per price is consistent. Sound Anchors Conecoaster | Pro Audio LA
