Looks like Scream 5 / aka Scream '22 / aka 5cream (Five Cream) is getting decent early critic reviews.

I didn't see any spoilers in the link above.

I may actually go to the theater to watch this. Seeing the original in the theater when it came out with a bunch of friends in my dorm was about the best movie experience I've had.

Definitely won't be headed to theatre to see it. Or anything else any time soon, unfortunately. But this is definitely exciting news.

I may attempt at some early in the day matinee when school is still in session. I won't go when it's packed....or I'll just wait and buy it digitally in a month or 2. I just don't think I can avoid spoilers being on Twitter as much as I am.

Makes perfect sense. I feel like I should be able to avoid spoilers easily enough as this forum is my only form of social media anymore. Unlike Spider-Man, I reckon I can wait for this to hit a legitimate stream before I watch it rather than
resort to a dreaded cam torrent

Ugh...back in the days when I used to do that sort of thing I tried to avoid them if I could. DVD screeners were the shit around award season, though.

ahh...I miss the newsgroups.

Seeing Scream 5 is from Paramount - they have a 45-day theatrical window before things go up on Paramount+ - so I may just have to wait....or maybe if they don't get the $$ this first week they may go VOD or something sooner.

Just signed back up with the $1 for 3 months deal they have going—guess my earlier trial/promo doesn't preclude me from another promo. (Yay!)

No thoughts on GG or Godard, but don't overlook the Nils Frahm, Max Richter and Ryuichi Sakamoto concerts/docs (esp. Sakamoto)!

Had some minor frustrations with the streaming quality (buffering, stuttering and stream errors) in my first trial, but for $1 I'm back in for at least the new Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Air Conditioner, and Vampir (video essay/doc about Jess Franco's Count Dracula). Used my first trial to fill in a few Jodorowsky gaps, though they're no longer available.
Started What Do We See When We Look at the Sky? in.Mubi tonight and it's lovely so far. Can't wait to finish it and find out why the dogs didn't meet up for the soccer game.

Watched "Don't Look up" i was trying to figure out where Cate Blanchett was in the movie - then I looked it up and was shocked!
Movie was pretty funny! I enjoyed it for sure. If this were happening in real life and people really were like this, we probably deserve it.

Side note is Ariana's song really existing? Yes it is.

watched Apollo 13 for the first time in years. talk about a movie that’s great in spite of its director’s worst impulses.
There was a time when that was my favorite movie. Got a VHS copy of it when I was 6 and it ignited my interest in the space program and the natural universe in general. Howard does have great technical proficiency. The performances are solid all around and it's very rousing. I still love it but agree, Howard isn't a very good director.

It's still a solid 4/5 just on the basis of the visuals, cast, script, James Horner's score, etc. How can anyone dislike a movie with Ed Harris and Tom Hanks giving those performances?

Just watched Memories of Murder which was very very good but also soul-crushing. Going to turn off the TV now and sulk around the grocery store for something to cope with.
Bong always hits.

I’m torn. It was fun to see Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire again and see them interact with each other and Tom Holland but it also felt like the plot elements inserted to allow for it were so convoluted that it came off feeling like fan fic. When they started talking about their curiosity about the web coming out of his wrist, I half-expected them to just start undressing and comparing body parts in a gratuitously sexy, slow-motion montage but then remembered that this is a Disney Marvel/Sony movie haha. It kind of feels good to tie all of the loose ends from the different franchises together and give everyone a moderately happy ending but also feels a little cringey like this was something demanded by Disney Sony to protect their IP and renew interest in existing properties.

EDIT: I guess it’s Sony in partnership with Marvel/Disney
This!

i wasn’t a big fan of No Way Home. My problem with this film is that it relies on a premise established in a much better movie that had a sense of adventure. Also, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has always bugged me. He’s jammed into the story to be the potential Stark heir and spends a good chunk of his time being really nice and really dumb. He’s likeable, I guess. But he never felt fully fleshed out despite two movies of his high school escapades (Far From Home is bad).

The best parts of No Way Home revolved around tired callbacks to better movies. How do you waste Alfred Molina?!

And the release date and the studio’s focus on picking up all the screening times at multiplexes killed Nightmare alley, West side story and Matrix Resurrections’ box office totals. Three of the best films of 2021 btw.
