@Bennnnn !!!!

Message me your email and I'll get you your Bandcamp gift cards!
Whoa! I was not expecting to win. Thank you so much. I’d like to thank…the forum for without it I wouldn’t have been in this position. Also you, for setting the entire thing up. Also the internet.

Sending a message now!

so I can not remember the last time I tuned in for the Grammy's...and in truth I didn't "tune in" so much as catch up via YouTube...but I thought there were some killer performances and I really dug the Jools Holland-esque set lay out. I thought it was awesome to see Black Pumas or HAIM playing and see cut aways to Harry Styles or those Eilish geniuses (seriously, they're both incredible)

Its funny, up until the AOTY noms were announced i was THRILLED by the nominees. Abba, brandi carlie. Sturgill, Stapleton, silk sonic, Japanese breakfast, arlo parks and st Vincent all getting love are so great! But aoty (my favorite category) is just a terrible list of albums. Doja, lol nas x and Olivia are my favs. Billie's album isn't bad but I don't want her winning again. Fuck swift, fuck h.e.r, fuck justin and fuck that gaga album. Jon batiste seems like an interesting pick but probably won't be my cup of tea

Out of the AOTY list my assumption is that it will be either Swift or Batiste. I have never listened to Batiste’s album but would be much happier if he manages to pull it off.

WHY WAS MACH-HOMMY LEFT OFF BEST RAP ALBUM!?!?!

GRRR
Because they went with the most boring and predicable group. Like you couldn't be more boring and predictable overall as a group of nominees.

Hopefully Tyler wins for the sake of making a great body of work and making something creative.

Initial thoughts:

Feels like a weak year for nominations in general.

I don't think Mickey Guyton deserved those nominations. I root for her, she has a great voice and seems nice; but these recordings weren't deserving to me.

Rap Album nominations were boring and predictable.

Morgan Wallen should have been nominated.

I'm a fucking massive Kacey stan but you can't tell me "camera roll" deserved these nominations.

Morgan Wallen should have been nominated.
that was not going to happen after what happened... lets be fair... it would be in bad name for the grammies.. even though they allow stuff like DONDA they wont directly give it to a full on racist (just if it features someone who is bad)

It's 2021 and we're nominating Louis C.K. for comedy album. I mean it's a tough given COVID kind of killed the live comedy album last year but those nominations are real real rough. FANCY LIKE for Country Song. Egads. I was gonna say Morgan Wallen probably got blackballed from this for obvious reasons but we're putting Louis CK up there still so who knows. I'm not really convinced Dangerous should have bumped any of the nominees even if he wasn't who he was to be honest.

I am tickled that Bo Burnham got nominated twice...once against Jennifer Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr, Pink, Her, and Kathryn Hahn (AGATHA!!!!). The other time against David Byrne, Billie Eilish, Jimi Hendrix, and Questlove. That's gonna be on some trivia lists.

Other pet favorite nominations

  • Sarah Jarosz's Blue Heron Suite for Best Folk Album (to be honest I didn't think many people listened to it)
  • The split Soul soundtrack ended up in two different categories, a rare double win would be fun
  • Best New Artist is always kind of funny but if it gets people to listen to Arlo Parks and Japanese Breakfast I'm here for it.
  • Norah is back! Well once for the live album.
  • The Best Rock Song category feels like it's from a different time
  • The rap categories just feel a little lazy. It's not my genre but it's so surface level
  • Isbell sighting! Actually minus Fancy Like the country categories seem really solid.
  • A slew of talent in American Roots, Billy Strings, Allison Russell, Yola, Valerie June, and Jon Batiste who may need a cart to drag his Grammys home.
  • Travelers Blues by Blues Traveler nominated for Traditional Blues album is a beautiful little tongue twister
  • Getting six musical nominees when COVID shut down Broadway is creative
  • Maybe In The Heights will win an award and I'll throw my TV out the window if Dear Evan Hansen gets it.
  • Chopsticks and The Christmas Song got nominated. Kinda funny

I don't know about "full on racist", but I respect your opinion.

It's interesting because Music Row and what they think they should do is just out of step with the people. Morgan Wallen was one of the best selling albums of the year and the #1 in country music. Tour is going to sell massive tickets, they already have two dates for MSGG that will sell out in minutes. The industry is stuck because they don't know what's appropriate to do, but he has people (and a truly massive amount) of people supporting.
