The National and The War On Drugs can keep doing what they are doing I will keep buying it. I am sure at some point I will decide I am good but I am not there yet.
 
Honestly my take is that every single album from The National is pretty different. There's huge gaps between even their last three - Trouble Will Find Me - Sleep Well Beast - I Am Easy To Find - none of those sound like the other one.

That said, this new War On Drugs album does sound like a War On Drugs album, but streamlined and simplified. I like it so far.

It’s real good. If you listened to any of the singles, it does give a hint that many of these songs are kinda different - more fleshed out than on her previous album. But not in a way that sounds overproduced or gigantic or anything.

I actually was familiar with far more than I expected --most even-- but only because I specifically set out to do this kind of exploration this year. Most years I feel like I'd be lucky to hit even 5 on a list like this!

I don't think I've ever listened to their second album, they kind of fell off my radar for a few years after loving their first album. I realized with this Wet album I'm a big fan of bands/artists who are a little bit pop but not trying to "make it" with big bubblegum pop singles or cliched, predictable melodies and production. See also: Lapsley, Yumi Zouma, Tops, Men I Trust, Hatchie
